OC & Modding SATA Power Cables: Cut & Splice For Custom Length; Advisable?

Hi since getting custom length cables is difficult in India, I am planning to trim the current cables down to the needed size.
What things should I keep in mind? Should I weave the split ends, solder them or clamp them together? What about heat shrink wraps on them?
 
Shorten, solder and cover them with heatshrink. It will be perfectly fine. 3mm heatshrink should be perfect.
 
It will work but the glue goes bad in a about a year and it will unravel itself. Heatshrink is a permanent measure.
