AMD Renaming ATI

After 21 years in the business, the ATI brand will soon be gone

August 7, 2006 - AMD announced today that ATI's days are numbered. All future products developed by ATI will now ship under the AMD brand name, effectively ending 21 years of ATI brand-history.

AMD is reportedly anxious to assert that its ATI acquisition is a full take-over rather than a merger or partnership. What impact the decision will have upon deepening the AMD-AMD (ATI) vs. Intel-Nvidia divide remains to be seen

I think thats stupid... They wont be able to cash on the ATi brand name at all... They can start selling similar producs by AMD brand name and then later decide weather to rename it or not... This way its just name... And also we guys will no longer be FanATics :'(

Hmm.. that's sad.

But gives AMD a huuge monopoly over Intel and they can now sell GFX bundled with proccy's.

Only if AMD starts making their own mobos :ohyeah:

Stupid decision ...ATI was already so well known .... now AMD graphics cards ..lol ..they ll have to do all the marketing again.

ATI was good especially with all those wallapapers n screensavers etc they had for each of their series.

anyways lets see what AMD does.
 
Really bad move ! AMD Radeon X1XXX ! :S sounds stupid and weird ! Forget sounding, they'll have to start with scratch and rebuild the brand name that was ATi and it'll take some precious time.
 
i think they should slowly take out the ati name after a full yr or so, as not all know bout this merger and sudden vanishing of the name from the market will be quite wierd... hmmm

Dont worry undy... ATI may losse its name for good but nVidia will be done and dusted in coming years if things remain the same... Green Mean Thing has nowhere to go :P...
 
I guess if AMD does not change the name from ATi to some other or even AMD they dont stand much to make other than maybe profits.
They made such a bold and excellent move by taking over ATi , they might have some good gameplan planned from long. They should change the name from ATi because ATi does not exist now, and AMD must benifit from this acquisition. They will have to change the perception of everybody to gain some profits now.

But i guess the rebranding and marketing and building the now extinct ATi brandname will take some time and energy.
But i too hope they stick with ATi and append their name somewhere in front or back... :P
 
They should've gone for something like 'AMD's ATI xxx'

That way, there are two super brands being recognized which may spell doom for nvidia.

I hope they keep Ruby as it is and don't mess around with her!!:@
