Scam centers and us

There is something known as a do-no-call-list. When called you tell them to put you on that list. If they don't action can be taken. I know this because that is what i did when i lived in the US and it worked. So there is a DnD like equivalent there.

Moment you mention that they cut you off. Now they can come at you with different numbers but there are rules in place to go after these people.

Keep in mind i'm referring to legit business calls. Scams like these people are doing needs something extra.

I mentioned it because that video makes it look like the west is entirely defenseless in this matter. Really ?
Doesn’t work here. Every week I get calls for hdfc loan, Bajaj personal loan, act, axis loan and other shit. The calls are not from these firms. They come from agencies who get bulk list of numbers and they just don’t care about DND. Report the number and they call from different number when the last number is blocked.

Fun fact, these scam call centers in kolkata have the blessings of the political brass, cops (aka the "establishment") as they pay "cut money" to grease all the people from top to bottom. Hence they always escape when raids happen, because these people in establishment will alert them. It's such a shame, that our primary IT center in kolkata is infamous for scam centers rather than actual IT work being done.

I recently came across one scam call center and I found out why people don't mind joining them. They make more money than the legit ones. Someone I know said she applied for some jobs at some local call centers. And the pay difference between the two starts at 10k. 10k is huge. This is also why the employees don't report such incidents at all.
These scam ones must be truckloads of money.
Btw she obviously accepted the legit one with lower pay.

Watch the video. The call initiator makes like 5L INR per month and the closer more than twice that. This is not an assumption, this is real data.

Hope it's not just to let that video ruin the govt's reputation.
The govt has more important tasks at hand than to worry about its reputation ;) ... There are many such centres operating in India that we needed an intervention from outside just to give us an idea how rotten this crap is.

Given that the "system" colludes with such people rather than taking action is why such practices thrive in our country. I see so many recommendations on YT about scamsters scamming people and the counter action taken to expose them.

Man they actually took action.
Hopefully they don't go without serving a good sentence.

I am receiving calls regarding hdfc credit card and hdfc loans and I said no to them.

In this regard byjus also been sending unwanted messages and calling me to take their offer regarding my kids classes.

I know there's anti spam/scam apps you can put on your phone and they work pretty well. Most of them are paid, unfortunately.

I have to tell you a story from 2010. I had these guys from ICICI who kept calling me for investment despite asking them not to call. I got pissed after 6 months of continuous torture. So, one day I said I will invest around 50 L in PMS (Portfolio Management Services). The sales guy was super excited but I told him I account risk 50 L with some dumb sales guy. I need either their PMS manager or their manager to meet me. I asked them to come to my home on a Sunday at 8:00 AM knowing very well they do not work on Sundays and that my place is around 25 kms away.

On the said Sunday the Sales guy along with his Branch manager came in a Maruti car at 8:00 AM sharp. I offered them some water and coffee. Then the branch manager slowly opened his laptop and was about to start his marketing spiel. I stopped him and said that I am not interested in their PMS. The manager was shocked and asked me then why I have asked them to come down. I said, "the same reason why you do not stop calling me even after I asked them not to call me". I also said, "maybe if I say this in person you guys will understand better". The look on their faces was really worth the trouble and satisfying.

The other thing I used to do for Credit Card and Loan calls is to tell them that I am interested and ask them to come to meet me in person. I obviously used to give them the wrong address and directions and ensure the sales guys lose at least 2 hours trying to locate my house before eventually catching on what I am up to.

These days I do not have the same level of enthusiasm and patience anymore. I use premium Trucaller to block spam calls.

There is one simple thing I did and all calls suddenly stopped.

One of my friend bought a car via car loan, and gave my number as reference. I started getting calls for personal loan, home loan, credit cards etc.

I answered one call, said I lost my job in Covid, and I am jobless for almost 2 years.
All calls from 6 different banks stopped.

Again, another friend who applied for MS overseas gave my number to his counsellor. Started getting calls for MS in Russia, Germany, UK, US, Australia.
Once I said I am already pursuing MS from the MIT, and I am here now in India for holidays. Stopped getting the calls once and for all.

No wonder their sky hi lifestyle. I used to wonder how come people working for few thousands, having such lavish life.
:(:( I feel like a failure. It's like unless one learns corruption in India, one is simply literate but uneducated.

Usually the calls come from the personal number of the agent. One trick that works is: tell them you are in the US or any country outside India and that call will be an international call. They'll disconnect instantly.

Another trick that worked for me, especially for loan calls, is I tell them that I'm still in school and ask them if they are OK with that, I'll take the loan. One time I did this, I heard the lady say to someone, "Who has prepared this database? I'm getting connected to kids" (in Hindi) and hung up.

For a peak of 6 to 7 calls a day, it has come down to 1 call every 2 weeks.

I am a user of truecaller. I have few thousand numbers blocked. But for last few weeks I am seeing a new trick, they are calling using legitimate names in truecaller(e.g. Nina Gupta, Mahesh Prajapati etc).
So is truecaller colluding with the spammers?

Nope, Scammer started buying old/disconnected numbers from Telecom Operators

This will take some tracking to know. I don't know how interested the media in this country is about it. Convictions take lots of time.

Before that i wonder how they will even frame the charges. Witnesses are all abroad.

Where is the crime ?

Why is being in school an issue for getting loans in India ? in the US they will give you any number of credit cards if you're in school because you're a good risk.
