SE P990i with warranty for Rs.14290

Since SE has stopped developing firmwares for the 990i, it is not recommended. In this range go for Imate JAMA (~14.5K), HTC S710(~16.5K)-though non touch screen.

^ Umm, I heard there's a last one R7 due, but R6 seems to have fixed almost all the major and minor issues that existed on this device.

With P1i having the same processor, no EDGE, just cosmetic and camera improvement, I'm not too sure whether its worth over the P990i.

Rediff, indiatimes and sify mall sellers mostly offer dealer warranty..ppl mistake it for company warranty..;)

@Anish: R7 is not confirmed...i checked it on esato...n most of the discussions there seem to point tht this is gonna be the last one...not sure though, as there is no word from SE, as usual..

Btw, i updated my FW yesterday night..n the most obvious difference tht i see now is the free ram at start up..around 15-16mb..thts all!! I dont care about the space bar bug, cos i find it foolish, tht ppl wud not tap the 3rd main icon on the touchscreen instead, to get an easy access to the phone dialer...:P

As such, i dont think there is any need to upgrade from R6D23 to R6e28, just for the heck of it..

they changed their minds :P

SE change their minds: further firmware update(s) for P990 and W950
It looks that Sony Ericsson have changed their minds and decided to go on with support for new firmware releases for the existing Sony Ericsson UIQ3-based smartphones: P990, W950 and M600. The following is a quote from Sony Ericsson Developer World discussion forum:

"In response to recent feedback from users and as a result of additional internal testing, Sony Ericsson has determined to offer a further firmware update for the P990 W950 Walkman phone. This move illustrates Sony Ericsson's ongoing commitment to its existing smartphone customers and the company's desire to be responsive to customer feedback in order to provide an optimal user experience. The next firmware release for the P990 and W950 will be available from the Sony Ericsson Update Service from August 2007."

^ Yep, its out, the R6E28, minor update.

What we were wondering was whether there's gonna be a major update (Read R7).

Btw, link to the article :D

Thts old news pal...read it on Esato..and it seems the update they were talkin about was R6E28 only....cos the date of their proposed FW update coincides with the R6E28 release.... And given tht usually there are FW updates once every 2-3 months, its possible tht there may be no R7 afterall..all depends on customer feedbacks and protests, like they did after the R6D23 update...SE had made up its mind to pull off the plug after R6D23...its only bcos of the fans at various forums tht we got to see R6E28...

SE doesnt know, what its losing by not listening to its loyal customer base and playing around with their faith...
