Sony Ericsson has added two new ‘mini’ handsets to its Xperia range, while also adding new Facebook functionality to the 2011 Xperia launch line-up.

Following on from the X10 mini and X10 mini pro, released last summer, Sony Ericsson has launched the brand new Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro, each with a 3-inch 320×480 pixel display and Mobile BRAVIA Engine, to produce a bright, vivid, display.

Powered by the same Qualcomm 1GHz (single-core) processor of the Xperia arc and Xperia PLAY, neither model compromises on performance and cannot be seen as a poor shadow to the flagship models.

The 5-megapixel cameras also offer 720p HD video (but not with the Exmor R sensor found on the arc, neo and pro), and the screens also come multi-touch support. Supplied with Android 2.3, future updates will be offered over-the-air far quicker than the original mini models.

Sony Ericsson launches next generation Xperia mini family | What Mobile

It has a HVGA 3" Bravia engine LED backlight screen but has the QSD8255 SOC(1GHz Snapdragon+Adreno 205) :O

It does 720p HD video recording and 512MB RAM too :hap5: (Neo has 380MB RAM!)

I feel the SOC is an overkill for this phone and they could have opted a 3.2"-3.3" screen and a Qualcomm MSM7230 800MHz+Adreno 205. I feel the power inside the hood is too high for a phone this size and screen resolution! Hope it doesnt end up reflecting in the price and end up costing 16k-18k @ launch for the Mini and Mini Pro!

Re: SE Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro launched

With dual core processors coming by the same time it would make sense for SE to price it in the entry segment androids in the upto 12k segment else it will be a fail.

Re: SE Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro launched

It would be great if SE offers an Exchange for this in return to my X10 mini :)

The Mini Pro is much much better with Secondary Cam and Mineral Glass..

512MB and Scorpion is an Overkill for HVGA,but makes it more future proof

Price: Better be around 15K

Like the new design .. still a 3.2" would've made it extra special and will totally raep the new Wildfire.. :D

Can't exactly call it 'Mini' then, can they?

The only thing lacking from the previous gen models was a bigger screen. Now, not only have they managed this, but they've bettered the phone all over while managing to keep the size the same.

If they price this right (especially the Mini Pro) at launch, they could have a best-seller on their hands. If they price it too high, they risk cutting into the sales of the big 'Pro'. 12-13k should be about right.

Strangely, on the SE site, the 'Features' section mentions the Exmor R sensor, but the actual technical specs do not. Wonder which is right?

Out for preorder for 15k :) Makes it the cheapest phone with a QSD8255 proccy from a major mobile manufacturer. Though the screen size and resolution is a downer its a great option for people who need a compact and powerful slider.

This means the sliderless Mini should cost just ~13.5k-14k at launch if we go by previous X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro pricing.

Well well well. SE is gonna sweep the sub 12k market i guess :eek:hyeah:

Its up for preorder on flipkart for Rs.12,990 and in letsbuy for Rs.13,139(Rs.11,939 after RCOMLB1 ;))

So its surprising that they have priced this ~2.5k below the Pro. I thought the initial difference would just be ~1k-1.5k.

Other than the smallish screen of 3" HVGA it has the best in class h/w from any android phone in the market (Even better than the Spice Mi 410 :D)

SE really needs a decent flagship. The SE Arc is nothing compared to the SII's, Sensations and Atrix's (Atrices?? :p) out there. For a single core, they don't seem to see the stupidity of pricing it above 27k. The Neo also is nowhere to be found. These new Xperia Mini's are very decently priced for the hardware they're packed with. I just hope they learn from this and price the Ray accordingly.
