I have a Seagate HDD ST380817AS, 80GB SATA, 5 yrs old
about 6 months back, it had developed bad sectors, and was unbootable, but seemed to start working after a full format.
Now I am using it as a Movie, etc dump drive.
Over the past 2-3 days, its emitting a hum when idle(which is most of the time, since I dont access the data on it much), and a really loud seeking noise during random read. But its perfectly silent during sequential reads.
Any idea why this is happening, or if theres any fix for the idle noise?(even a way to keep the drive from going into idle mode will do, drive lifespan is not much of an issue)
Drive is functioning and passes seatools, and warranty expires today, so I guess RMA isnt an option anyways..
