Sennheiser PXC 550 II smart pause issue

I turned off the smart pause option in the Sennheiser's smart control app ( as it was very sensitive, often head movements paused the music)
Now when I'm turning it on, smart pause is working intermittently.
Tried resetting the headphones from the app, reinstalled the app, deleted the previously connected devices etc.
But the issue persists in both android and iOS ( tried 4 different phones and an iPad with same result)
Since it's a very minor thing and the sensor is possibly still working ( as it works from time to time) not too keen on visiting service center ( it's almost an hour's drive from home)
The cans are less than a month old and they will replace the headphones. But if it's a SW issue, it will happen in another set also.
Anybody facing similar issues? Any fixes?

Person who has a Sennheiser. He might have an idea about this. He's not active on forums so kinda hard getting him to login lol
