Jus felt like sharing this weird (and somehwat sad ) incident

Sequence of events:

Night of 18th June

10:45PM: Dinner at Dominos, Adyar....Bill settled by C.Card

At this point, i forgot to pick up my card from Dominos

19th June:

8:00PM: Realize that my card is missing from my wallet...Assume that would have left the card in the car or @ home

8:30PM: Card not in car...Assume it's at home

10:45PM, come back home, and serach for card...can't find...Recollect sequence of events from last night, and realize I did not pick up the card from Dominos

10:59 PM: Call up Dominos and ask them about my card, the guy says he will call me back after some time, as the store manager is out...He's abt to hang up, when I ask him to take down my number which is the least he will need to call me back

11:15PM: No response from Dominos, I call them up again, same guy picks up...Sounds a little jittery, says manager not in as yet...says he will call back later

11:30PM: I call up ABN Amro (Card issuer) and ask them if I can put a temp block on the card, till I find my misplaced card..They say it has to be a permanenent block after which they'll issue a new one...

So I ask them about the last few transactions on the card....

xyz Rs/- at Dominos on 18th June

170/- Rs. 5 mins ago

Damn...Damn....

So I ask them to block the card immediately....

11:40: I call up Dominos again, different guy....Says he is the shift manager, can barely undertsand or speak English....I try to ask him who picked up my call last time around, but the entire conversation felt akin to banging my head against a wall so I give up, and decide to crash out

Today

Call up Dominos again, the guy who picks up says that he indeed picked up my card on Sunday Night , and had left it with the store manager for safekeeping...He is shocked when I tell him about the incident from last night..Passes the phone to the store manager who says he would investigate

Called up ABN Amro, to figure out the merchant details for the last tx. It is apparently still an unsettled tx and they can't figure ot the point of transaction till the merchant settles it....

Well, I guess I was fortunate that this transaction was for 170/- only...But it is kind of painful to see this happening

I did not get the card blocked immediately upon realzing that I left it at a merchant's end because it was a decent store which I assumed could be trusted ....Guess I will have to be a little more cautious now, and so should you!

Too bad this happened, but you were lucky. A buddy of mine lost his Syndicate Bank debit card (the card doesn't require a pin for debit card transactions)... he realized it a day later, but by then someone had swiped his card for about 12k at various branded stores like Reebok, Lee, etc. The bank provided details of where the transactions occured but it wasn't enough to find those guys.

aww....too bad.

But the bright side is that it was just 170. I mean, it could have been a lot worse.

And
left it at a merchant's end because it was a decent store which I assumed could be trusted
well, just because you left it at Dominos doesnt mean it cant be misused.

An Open door tempts even a saint.

And many times the people working in Dominos are part time employees like college kids, etc..... they may not be "decent" .....

Just be careful next time dude.....

@Rio ---- Did your friend have to pay that 12K???

Well technically, the thief swiped the card so the money was already debited from his savings account... and no, the bank did not refund any money lost in those transactions. After you report loss or theft, banks will cover any transactions but since they always immediately cancel the card, they never have to pay (unless there's human error during the actual cancellation).

I know...I got lucky...

Though what is disturbing is the fact that the guy who found the card didn't misuse it...

Most likely, the guy who picked up my call last night picked it up from the store manager's place after realzing someone had left a card

Thanks goodness I called up the bank immediately afterwards....the 170/- swipe may have been just a test swipe by the guy....

Too bad this happened but its for the good. This small loss of 170 has the potential of keeping you alert for a long time to come, ain't it :)

Excatly, I had my wallet picked at aquatica (Kolkata)

Had to rush to home to get my card number and call the bank to cancel,

The dumb asses, kept me on hold for almost 15 mins and asking me my past weeks transactions to confirm if It was really me reporting theft,

I did not loose money on the card, but Lost some 700 bucks, license, 2 credit cards, PAN card, some old pictures of my family...

Getting all these replaced costed me a bomb,

No, it doesn't. PERIOD. No joking this time. :@

u should consider your self extremely lucky in this case.

may be the theif gave you a birthday present :P

like wise you must take back your card and also take care while swiping the card is not out of your sight and its not swiped twice without showing you the cancellation slip of first swipe.
