I am currently located in the US and wanted to buy 2 smartphones for my parents in India. My Dad is somewhat tech savvy and can operate explore most phones. Mom will use it primarily for calling basic texting , skype calls and simple chat /photo exchange with me on probably whatsapp.
I have no clue of budget android smartphones currently available and esp regarding the features build quality . I use a Nexus 4 /Atrix 4g here in the US and know most of the brands/model here in the US but frankly i m illiterate on the indian cellphone market.

A: around 7 - 8 K
2. Preferred Form Factor(flip, bar, slider)?
A: Bar
3. Preferred display type?
A: no preference but a 3.5 to 4 inch screen should be good enough . both currently uses a Nokia S40 dumbphone
4. Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them.
A: would prefer a big name like Samsung LG , Sony and probably ones with good after sales service. Not so sure of brands like intex lava micromax karbonn spice videocon. I want a good build quality and not something that conks off . Mom dad both handle devices carefully but don't want the hardware to fail or be too flimsy.
5. Preferred input method (Touchscreen, QWERTY, etc.)?
A: Touchscreen
6. Camera required or not? If required, please specify type like front camera/flash/etc.
A: a 3.2 or 5MP camera should be fine.
7. Preferred operating system? (Android, Symbian, iOS, Windows Phone etc).
A: Android ICS or newer . Preferably supporting newer firmware once launched.
8. Preferred connectivity options? (3G, Wifi, Edge etc).
A: 3G. Wifi
9. What is your intended use for this phone(internet, camera, multimedia, mails, etc)?
A: Calling texting camera , whatsapp like chat communication.
10. Any other requirements?
