Can he carry two without being questioned by the customs? He has a macbook which he will take back to the usa after his holidays. The kid is 18 years old and I dont want to put him in a uncomfortable spot.

Yes, you can. But IMO, its better not to, unless the guy is very good at fibbing to others , specifically the customs.
