these are two different type's of camera's one is a compact camera and the other is a bridge camera. Choose first which one of these type's you would want first.I will pick the sony in this comparison.
Why i would buy the sony: because it will have a similar picture quality but also give's you a decent 10x optical which according to me is more than enough.It has full 1080p video recording too which the nikon does not have. It is also a very portable camera too.

Add to that Sony has 3Yr warranty - which is matched by only Panasonic - which reminds me, why not consider TZ10 in that list?
