me planning to buy a DSLR cam around 25k...
as i am used with sony cams(DSC P100 n DSC P200 - owned earlier), i planned to go with sony this time too...

need info frm photography gurus :)

While having a discussion with BF1983 while Sony A850 was launched, we even had a talk on A230,..

and BF1983 being a A200 user didnt praised it much...

Even I, from what photos of body I have seen on net, didnt like the ergonomics, lack of buttons and grip...

But, its all on you, how U feel the camera in hands..

however this doesnt mean that it is a poorer deal than getting a canon or nikon...

Also do care about the availability of lenses...
(coz in small cities like where I am U cannot find a sony or used minolta lens..)

1st, its going to be quite different from a point and shoot. I wouldnot compare it to those that u mentioned :)

2nd, no company makes BAD cameras, they are all quality products(canon 1000d,nikon d3000,a230 in your range).

3rd, canon and nikon may be more suitable for india, considering the easy availability of lenses and other accessories. (also a wider range of lenses, if you have to go that far)

Mr. Payne, ATTACK :D

If all you are going to use is the Kit lens with maybe a 70-300mm type lens then the Sony may be what you need.

The kit lens is as good as the Canon/Nikon equivalents and you can get a Sigma 70-300mm APO lens for about 10k later on.

I however dont believe the Sony is worth it anymore.

When I bought my A200, the price was 24k compared to the 30990 for the 1000D and the 34990 for the D60. So my buying decision was much easier. Now the 1000D is 25k and the D3000 is a little more at 27k so pricing advantage of Sony is out of the window.

In such a scenario I would place more importance on the Canon 1000D or the D3000 rather than the Sony.
