Storage Solutions Sony HDD RMA woes

So, I am one of the few unfortunate who decided to purchase a Sony External HDD. However HDD started acting up and keeps getting disconnected. I contacted Sony Customer service and they simply denied warranty stating HDD wasnt purchased from authorized dealer. I bought this HDD, where seller mentioned 3yrs warranty. Also provided Sony warranty Card. I think this is malpractice on Sony's behalf as warranty should be honored irrespective of seller. Also they should clearly mention a disclaimer on the box that warranty valid only if purchased from authorized dealers/ online merchants.

Anybody having any experience regarding this how to get HDD replaced?
