Laptops Sony VIAO P Arrives in India - with ridiculous price

it costs $900 in the US so a fair price by that standard

In addition, the screen is crazy good (1600X768) with a near perfect WLED screen esp. compared to the abominable screens you see on most netbooks

It is overpriced, yes..but then it is seriously the Ferrari of the netbook market

not talking about this vaio in particular, but if netbooks are going to cost as much or even more than entry level notebooks, whats the point of buying them? is a classier netbook really better than a base model notebook?

depends on your need na..

This machine does not address the requirements of a buyer who is looking to buy a laptop but is not in a position or is unwilling to spend much money for it

It addresses another segment , of people for whom a netbook is a secondary support laptop which carries the advantage of being extremely portable and who are not willing to sacrifice quality for extreme portability

So far, none of the netbooks in the market lived up to the expectations of a discerning customer and were plagued by one or more of the common afflictions of horrid low res screens, poor battery life , poor build and bad ergonomics

^^You could say that for most high end gadgets/ lifestyle products. What I find funny is the performance. Vista on the atom? And big bux for a pathetic combo of hardware/ software? lol.

Hope Windows 7 releases sooner rather than later to save us from under performing "high" end products like this.

Sony is hell bent on charging huge premium in these times of slowdown too!!
Amazes me beyond logic, Sony is on the way down, if this is any indicator!

^^It's actually the opposite for premium products. For example, my wife wanted to get rid rid of her iPhone when all that talk about prices falling down to 8~12k started!

Some people like to have exclusive items. And Sony or any other premium brand is targeting those people.

netbooks are either a secondary portable computers or a budget option for people with very basic computing needs.

why would someone pay so much for a premium netbook when we already have premium ultraportable notebooks costing the same. the high end variant in this p series costs as much as a good ultraportable notebook.

i personally use an ultraportable notebook with an led monitor etc for which i paid a premium. i paid around 72k for it a year back. i would never spend 70k on this p series netbook instead (as a primary or secondary device).

what i mean to say is, even if someone needs a secondary on-the-go pc, why wouldnt they spend that cash on a ultraportable notebook instead of this?

Can't comment on why people buy netbooks, but I was a short time owner of a Vaio UMPC costing around 80~90k :P . Measly little thing but I was enamored by it. Better sense did prevail and it went to some one else.

The point is, Sony doesn't want to sell these to you or me. It's for ppl like I "was" in the above scenario.

well, come to think of it, it isnt exactly a "netbook". its more a lifestyle product where functionality is secondary.

Dont know if youl count the macbook air as a netbook, but i think it scores on each and every aspect youve mentioned above.. :ohyeah: xcpt maybe ergonomics maybe..

Yes well said it is indeed a lifestyle product, you can already buy better/VFM netbooks if u want its just to target one of those ppl who wont mind paying the premium
