Its an amazing world out there about home theater systems. Would any body like to give me a hand in deciding about which speaker system should i go for, for my Denon 1910. Its a 7.1 av system.

1. Is it necessary to go for 7.1 ch speaker system , when the source for these are limited?
2. My budget is around 100k. For speakers alone.
3. No dedicated room for Hom theater rite now. Will come up later with room size 16x10 or 16 x 16. Presently will place the system in the drawing room- 20x22 (all in feet:))

Eagerly awaiting ur help roap
Tnx

Hi Raaj,

The best approach would be to start auditioning speakers one by one with your own CD's and DVD's. Each brand has its own signature sound and it all depends on what you like. Music to your ears may be noise to someone else.

There is an ocean out there once you start looking. The brands people swear by, in no particular order are Polk Audio, Jamo, Dali, PSB, Wharfedale, EPOS, Dynaudio, Monitor Audio, Klipsch, Usher, the list is endless.

If you have access to lots of Blu-rays, only then will 7.1 make sense. A 5.1 will be the best setup for DVD's. And if, later on you do graduate to Bluray, you can always add 2 more speakers to the existing setup.

The main thing is to take your own stuff for auditioning, since that is what you will be listening to.

Happy Hunting !!

Start auditioning, its a big confusing and troubling journey but with 100K in hand you are well equipped.

keep posting here and toch base with Cranky and Chaos, possibly on this thread itself. They give right direction but then u buy what u like. hence go listen, listen and u will come to a conclusion.

1L for a 7.1 system is right on the edge of mediocre.

PSB's Image system should be just under that price point, as well as a MA Bronze system. I would prefer the PSB, if music was a priority, and the MA if movies were going to be the main use of the system. Velodyne subs would be a good match for either, though PSB sub is also not bad.

I can't think of a single other brand that would fit that budget and do justice to both movies and music. Both the above are recommendations for 5.1, not 7.1, FWIW. Cambridge Audio S series should also fit that budget, AFAIK.

If you were at the 1.5L territory it might be possible to get Dynaudios or X-series Ushers or even some of the better Mordaunt-Short speakers.
