Hi,

am really torn apart at the moment on whether i should buy an HD media player, or just my jailbroken PS3, alongwith 'showtime' would suffice. i will enlist my requirements and doubts below. kindly suggest/add-on wherever you feel necessary :

1. i dont need any kind of networking solution with my media player.

2. would use with a panasonic plasma TV (50VT20) and a 5.1 speaker set-up.

3. if HD media player, i would like to spend something around 7k, but dont know which one to buy amongst these :

a) WD TV Live - good reviews; issues with real media content

b) asus o'play mini - good audio out; but only 1 usb port and slighlty sluggish in the GUI.

c) amkette flash tv hd - good upscaling, comes with hdmi cable; but again, only 1 usb port, dont know about audio out.

d) playon hd essential - extensive format support, 2 usb ports, int HDD; very noisy, sluggish in operation.

4. MOST IMP - since i have a jailbroken PS3, would considering buying a stand-alone HD media player be a wise move ?

please guys, suggest something. waiting eagerly for response :)

Well...

If it was a PS3 Media server, then i would say PC alone. Showtime, Well... honestly its only equivalent to a normal chinese HD media player.
Talking about the UI alone.

Can you tell if you are going to get a media player, what will be your budget?.

If its less than 6~7k then your better off with PS3. all will have just rustic UI. From your list ONLY consider the ACRyan. As far as rest are concerned PS3 is enuff

Again, UI is something that i consider a lot when i think of a dedicated machine to play my HD.

PS3 Blu Ray remote + PS3 Media server is bliss.
