Graphic Cards Strictly: Green vs Red

Switch

Guide
As we all know nVidia is back with some goodies. 7900GTX,7900GT and 7600. ATI has also launched X1800GTO and is phaseing out X1800XT and X1800XL as the availability is becoming scarce. And as the charts stands now, The 7900GTX is just about on par with X1900XT and XTX.

Though the 7900GTX is lacking some features but it makes up for in in giving out better SLI performance and not to forget the $$$ factor. ATI is on other hand has some good features HDR+AA and better IQ(I know few of you will not agree with me on that) and now it is upto the game developers to utilize the features or not.

So in short
  • X1900XTX/XT = 7900GTX (Single card)
  • X1900 series does HDR+AA and more features, Requires more power, Slower with crossfire, Better IQ
  • 7900GTX Great Price, Just as FAST, SLI still Rocks, Less power and less heat and definately less noisy :)

So the point of discussion maily is what do you prefer and why. No fanboyism here just facts. We talk about 7900GT a little later :ohyeah:

Single eVGA 7900GTX 512MB EGS or Superclocked, I'll take any... no fanboyism here, but I trust eVGA more than others.

SLI never made sense to me because it doesn't deliver 2x performance.

The only reason i decided to ditch the 7800GT was urge to get ATI back in system for superior IQ.

There is visible difference you can notice in games you play.

Also do remember that NV cards still cant do HDR + AA in games like FC and SS.

And guru3d tested these games with both enabled on ATI cards while same was not the case with 7900GTX.

7900GTX is nothing but the clock speed boost over 7800GTX. It still has all the limitations of 7800 series. Same problems, same AF quality.

The only thing is 7900GT is priced to perfection.

In the top end, if i was given the choice i would have still prefered the X1900XT over GTX and I am happy that i purchased that card.

Anyway when it comes to india, all this pricing is gona be hit for the grand home run anyway with our dear RASHI pricing it to premium again.

Lets see if they can offer 7900GTX below 30k, i have 0% hope of that happening.

None of us are going to use SLI or CF. So, I would definitely say that RED WINS!!

Most people around the world buy single cards. Very few buy 2 of these high end cards to SLI or CF them. And in single card performance ATI rules. Not only in terms of sheer FPS but also in IQ and all the xtra features-$#it you guys talk abt :P

but if you HAFTA have 2 cards, then obviouslt SLI.

But for regular people I hate to say this but I guess nvidia is better simply coz of the pricing.... 7900GT (equivalent of 7800GTX) for 300$ is SUPERB.

But let us wait for sometime and see how the ATIs settle down in price...

Nikhil, how does Red win? :) Don't bring up the HDR+AA vs. HDR+noAA because that's irrelevant.

Btw, nVidia prices will begin to settle down in a couple weeks, maybe sooner...

I said RED wins for the high end segment. The mid segment(I mean 300$) belongs to nvidia right now....

No comment abt the X1800GTO vs 7600GT though....

How is that not relevent???
In the games tested ATI card is running HQ AF and HDR and AA enabled. While nv cant do that.
It still uses angle dependent AF, so shimmering will still be there. ATI still performas better in shader heavy games.

Yes it will be sooner then later as BFG 7900GTX OC (670/1640) is already at $539-shipped and that is a decent $40 premium for lil higher clocks. But super thing is XFX Extreme with 700/1800, and "XS" chaps saying that XFX is speed binning those makes it more fun for some even @ $620.

X1900XTX is slower than 7900gtx (see published benchmarks) not because it does HDR+AA... I'm dismissing that as being unrelated to why 7900gtx is faster.

EDIT: And yes, the XTX will probably handle shader-intensive games better but that's in future games.

Taking everything into account... performance for both is about the same so no one can go wrong picking one of the two, however, the differences:

-XTX will probably be faster in shader heavy games

-GTX runs cooler, requires less power and did you see the stock cooler on the eVGA - HOT!!!

some where u guys suggested that X850XT over 6800GS neglecting the SM3.0 factor ...... and here some ATi fanboys crying about HDR+AA ......and with 84.XX series drivers performace of 7XXX series card with AA and AF has increased to 20-30% depending upon the games ...... and in single card 7900GTX 24 pipe is beating X1900XTX 48 pipe card and that too with lower clocks .... i don't see any point in taking ATi for high end hardware ..... and IQ performance is much improved of nvidia and its now in class of ATI ..... i am no fanboy here but Nvidia always comes with better solution at more affordable prices ....

^ Play any ISI powered game (F1C, GTR, GTL, rFactor and the upcoming GTR2).
The nVidia shimmeringâ„¢ makes 1280x960 4xAA look like 0xAA. It's terrible.

It's not noticeable in other games though. Also DV + Image Sharpening makes strategy games look awesome and the game profiler is indispensible.

i think u answer lies in ur question y it is happening only with ISI powered games ??

Well Fist things first... We can all see who is crying... 6800GS was slower then x850 at any given point of time... Weather it be SM 3.0 or not... Now when thats setteled...

The ATI cards CAN DO HDR + AA and still be in contension for top end crown without HDR + AA they simply rule while nVidia cant do it in the first place itself... So who wins... Apply a little logic here...

so switch i have answers to ur questions but i really don't want to drag in this discussion ..... or u guys will say that i am fanboy :P ..... and in that thread i have answered every of questionable performance about 6800 series in SM3.0 ..... if u want chk out that thread .....
