Suggest a Good DVD player. Budget max 5K

Two of my friends are looking to buy a DVD player. Can anyone please suggest some good brands and models if possible.
Primary requirements are

1. Should play all kind of discs (original, road side stuff, DVD RW, CD, CD RW etc).
2. Ability to play scratched discs reasonably well will be added bonus.
3. Should support 5.1 channel sound for future upgrades (read 5.1 channel system)
4. HDMI connectivity is NOT A PRIORITY
5. USB connectivity is required. If it can even detect FAT32 formatted HDD, it would be really great.
6. Budget is max 5k for the player.
7. Do not want to got for a 5.1 channel system any time soon.
8. Good if it also plays DivX/XviD/any other format (please enlist).
 
I recently bough Philips 3356 Philips - DVD player DVP3356/94 - DVD Players - Blu-ray and DVD - Sound and vision from E-Zone for 2.75k (don't go by the price on website). It fulfills all your requirements. It will play anything you throw at it, scratched discs, old discs.
Sound quality and picture quality are good. Control options & setup choices are also adequate.

No reason to spend 2k more, IMO. Only thing I haven't tried is external HDD (don't have one). But overall experience, satisfactory.
 
Do you mind getting a media player like the seagate or WD ?. May cost much and lack CD/DVD playability but has better format support..

Media player is not really what is required. A basic DVD player is what they want.
