Suggest best DSLR in 30k

The best option would be a Canon 550d. It's available for 33.9k on Letsbuy. you can apply RCOM coupon and get it for 32.9k.. Canon 550d is an amazing camera with lots of features.

Other options would be Nikon D3100 and Canon 1100D.
Nikon D3100 price is 28k Locally and Canon 1100D( 18-55IS) will be 25k.

keep in mind that the Nikon lenses are expensive compared to Canon's.

Nikon is better deal overall. Comparison
Nikon is better at Video, cheaper, better low light/high ISO performance.
Canon lens are cheaper because they have in-body AF motor while nikon does it in-lense.
So for the approx. price of 550d body+18-55mm kit lense, you can get D3100+kit lense+55-200mm lense for a complete package.
Canon 1100D is also great VFM for a beginner and fits your budget, but for slightly more price you get better 'future-proof' (regarding your own talent not the camera hardware!) with D3100.

@cybertechie - The Canon 550D is undoubtedly a good camera but it sells for around 37k at Letsbuy. I am not sure about the local market but even on ebay it around 37k. If the OP can afford it its a very good buy.

@ vercetti - Please recheck. AFAIK the price is around 37k only. If you have some links please do share the same. :)

@jdutt - The 550D shares the same sensor and metering system but a higher end camera has a lot of other features which people pay a premium for like faster FPS, weather sealed body, better viewfinder, more dedicated buttons, faster AF, more customizable options, more responsive body, etc.

@bhupatib - Sirji, that site is not the best place to do any meaningful comparison. You will not be able to tell the difference in IQ at any sane ISO levels.

So IQ aside the Canon has better features like AF support for more lenses, a larger and more hi-res screen and better third party support.

The D3100 doesn't have a body AF motor and so wont AF with a lot of old lenses.

BTW, Canon bodies also don't have a body AF motor ! :D (Shows how accurate that site is !)

All Canon lenses have the motor in the lens while only some Nikon lenses have AF motors built in.

For your budget I suggest either the Canon 500D or the Nikon D3100. Do note that Nikon's 50mm lens costs 12k (the one with AF compared to the Canon version which costs only 5k).

Otherwise either camera system will serve you well. :)
 
And if you're fine with used, was thinking of disposing my D5000 along with the 55 - 200mm for a decent price :P

The prices seems to be fluctuating a lot on Letsbuy these days.
 
Err...it was ~37k since apr-may.

I remember it being `deal of the week' on ebay for arnd 33k-34k (April sometime).

And before it was hovering in the 40k`s, i guess.

Anyway the price NOW is 36k-37k.

Yeah the 550D went up after sales went higher and there was shortage in supply or something. Get the 550D if you can afford. Else I think the next best will be the 1100D. Supposed to be quite good.
 
550D at 33495/- is a steal! Grab it while the price stays the same.

I bought a 550D + 55-250 IS lens for around 36k from US. Amazon has a nice deal for this combo if you want to check out and can source one from US.
 
It is the same 55 - 250 IS lens that many people would want to add to their collection to beginner collection. The quality of the lens is decent for the price.
