Graphic Cards Suggest graphic card for my rig

nRiTeCh

Northstar
My rig:
Amd phenom 720be
Biostar ta790gxa3+ mobo
8gb ddr3 xm3
320gb + 500gb sata3
cw 500w extreme
21.5 inch dell led
(whole rig running at stock/no ocing)

Suggest me a descent gfx card in budget within 9k for gaming, movies and general usage. I play mostly simulation and fps games.

** I cannot i mean i seriously cant afford to change my psu as for now so please suggest one which will work just good on my hardware.

I wont be OCing as of now due to psu issue.

Try to go for any of the following graphics cards --

AMD HD 7770 ~8500/- [weakest performer in this segment but very efficient] *
AMD HD 6850 ~9000/- [balanced proponent of performance and power consumption] *
AMD HD 6870 ~11500/- [best performer in this draw of lots though power hungry] *
nVidia GTX 560 ~11900/- [a good performer with decent limitations on its power draw] *

*All performance in reference to AMD 6870. Anandtech benches have been hyper-linked to the the corresponding aestriks.

If you can wait till the time the nVidia GTX 660Ti releases [expected sometime ~June -->early July] then you will be able to get better deals on the current crop of cards. You might also strike gold if the same outperforms its HD 78** competitors, you might be able to grab a HD 7850 for ~13500/- -->14900/- then.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!!

#alpha17, do you mean HD 7870, because, 7850 is already 15K.. I think once 660 is launched, and price wars starts, 7870 should come in the range of 15K, as I am planning to buy 7870 then.

Once GTX660 launches you might not get HD7850 instead you might go for GTX660Ti which will be like 17k or more considering GTX670 has given great performance. You're right about the price wars,Sometimes waiting is the wise thing to do.Use @ to tag users and it's @ALPHA17 not alpha17.

ok, let me be clear on what I wanted to say.
I want to say that in a couple of months, when the dust settles after the release of 660, ati 7870 will reach the 15K mark (+-1.5K) and ati 7850 would reach like 10K... This is exactly what had happned 3 years ago in 2009, when 4870 and 4850 came down and settled at 11K and 8.5K respectively by september. (However, I had bought it in July for 15K..lol). This time I am playing the waiting game. When 7870 reaches 15K, I'll grab it. I know it will be around 10K by Jan 13, but I aint waiting for that long. And, this time I will xfire.... (hopefully)..

Edit: Oopsiee for the tag thingy. It used to be # not a week ago and it used to be case insensitive. I guess it has changed after the recent site upgrade...so, its @Jakob and @ALPHA17??

@nRiTeCh:- I saw your pc configuration. You have 9k for your graphic card. So i say please add few more money and get a non TI GTX560 graphic card. The Non TI GTX560 come up with best price now a days in indian market. Gtx 560 price in india is Rs. 10250. If you can't get it then go for Gtx 550TI graphic card. Because it's come under your 9k.

Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500 W Power Supply Review | Hardware Secrets
eXtreme power plus 500W is good for only 250W from the +12V lines.
Beyond that it exceeds ATX's max 120mV ripple requirement.
Even if you get the lowest power 7770, your PC will be using 250W.
Running like this, you will blow either the GPU or Mobo VRM.
HD 6750 or GTS 450 + Corsair CX430 V2 (NOT VS450!) or Seasonic S12II 430W.
Total 9k.

No I meant the AMD HD 7850 2GB edition(s). These cards are currently retailing for ~15500/- -->16900/-, generally price cuts abroad take time to reflect in the Indian scenario.

I am not super optimistic that the AMD HD 7870 will show that deep price cuts, because vendors still have to clear a lot of older HD 68** and HD 69** series stock and that grave a price reduction will see a lot of undercutting of AMD's own business.

I have seen these lowly power supplies pull the following configuration flawlessly --

AMD Phenom IIx4 965
ASUS M4A79T Deluxe
2GB x2 Corsair ValueRAM
Sapphire HD 5850
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB
Cooler Master eLite 310

Surely the above setup would have completely saturated the SMPS's output and any safety margins and trims were all shot to hell but, the RIG worked just fine. The user had obviously not bothered to research enough about the RIG [especially SMPS] and I will not recommend this to anyone. But the fact that the SMPS did not blow up / no VRM's popped / the RIG is ~1[SUP]1[/SUP]/[SUB]2[/SUB] years old and is still running is testimony that the SMPS as such is sound.

If you think this is a effeminate post explaining my stand wait up, I would still suggest nRiTeCh to go for any of the graphics cards I listed below the HD 6870 [the GTX 560 consumes lesser power], but if it is within his purview he should buy a decent SMPS on the lines of the -- Corsair VX550W OR above for now. After the GTX 660Ti is released make a final approach for the HD 7850 OR GTX 660Ti [non-Ti] depending on overall performance.

Mac Sire, the GTX 560 [non-Ti] performs just about as good as the AMD HD 6850 and the GTX 550Ti is outperformed by all the cards I have mentioned.

For more on the same -- HD 6850 vis-a-vis GTX 560 / HD 6850 vis-a-vis GTX 550Ti / AMD HD 7770 GHz edition vs. GTX 550Ti. Honestly OP can go for a GTX 560 but only just [his SMPS gives me the jitters], the GTX 550Ti is out of the running.

@ALPHA17 sire. If you read my post than you see, I ask him to add few more money and grab GTX 560 Non ti for his rig. But if you can't add more money then you can go for Gtx 550Ti for your rig. I think you didn't read my post correctly. Sorry their is no issue about this, I'm just explaining my self. Hope this help sire. Cheers

And that is what I am saying, if he is going for a graphics card below ~9000/- the AMD HD 7770 GHz edition and AMD HD 6850 outperform the GTX 550Ti decisively.

Please use the following links to reach benches which show the GTX 550Ti vis-a-vis AMD HD 6850 / HD 7770 GHz edition --> http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/539?vs=541 / http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/536?vs=541.

Does this prove that I read your post properly.
