Sorry folks, could not keep an eye on this thread as I was away. In the meantime, also bought D3100 coz all reviews said it produced better images than A33. Bought it from abroad for around 38K India price with (Extra) Nikkor 55-200 AF+Tripod+Nissin Flash+a cheapo MP3 player being part of the bundle.

Between Nikon & Canon - I would recommend a Canon as their lenses are 25% cheaper than Nikon's. Having brought a Nikon D5000 with kit lens, I feel the drawback as an 18-200 lens is quite expensive [Rs 32k vs a Canon which is 25k]. I may have to settle for a Tamron lens today. Incidently the Nikon D3100 is an excellent camera at 32.5 [knock off the kit-lens and straight away go for an 18-200 lens]. You can use the same logic also for the Canon.
