Hello,

After 7 long years, my Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers have conked off. They are not powering up. I am looking for new speakers in 5.1 configuration.

Following are requirements;
- connecting to PS3 (Yet to own - buying process started)
- connecting to TV for movies (TV yet to purchase but have considered LG 42LN5710)
- connecting to my Desktop for games/movies

My desktop does have S/PDIF output. Usage will be 90% gaming + movies.

At present have considered Logitech Z906. What would be other suggestions in similar price range of 18-20k? I am noob at operating/underastanding AMPs/AVRs.

Logitech Z906 is a fair option since you will be connecting ur console,TV,Desktop ( Z906 has two optical inputs )
another cheap option would be Edifier C6XD 12-13k.(no DD, DTS support) your best bet would be an AVR package. if you can increase your budget.
Yamaha YHT 196 5.1 - Rs 25,000/- or a similarly priced other AVR.

I did not consider HT because I have read that at this budget - entry level one, quality of products is not very good. My budget is stretched at 20k from 12-14k initially.

@hector19 In your opinion, how much worth it is spending another ₹5000 on HT ?

The entry level HT would be very apt sound wise, you should go audition these at Reliance Digital, they most of these in their demo room. As for connectivity that is a big plus with the AVR, and you could always mix and match to better speakers in the future. Also, please note the YHT 196 doesnt decode DTS HD/ Dolby True HD should not be a deal breaker, wanted to let you know.

Also you can buy demo piece from reliance if you don't mind using such piece, last time I got an tv worth 24k for 16k.

I doubt if I could go beyond ₹20,000. Any other good AVR/HT below ₹20,000 ? If not I guess I need to settle on Z906 or something similar.

sorry for the late reply.. Happy New Year.
its worth more than u expect, Sound Quality, broad range of connectivity options! ( its more like a one stop shop ) if you go for a AVR, will be miles a ahead of Z906,you can also look into Onkyo-HT-S3400, no idea bout the actual price, but its cheap on Ebay. if you are still confused... then settle for a Z906 its a beast :) ( but before you do, i strongly suggest you go audition some AVR packages )

as others have suggested, AVR would be the way to go, if you can somehow stretch your budget beyond 20k, or are willing to even consider a used AVR package. you will really appreciate having a plethora of connectivity-options in your HTiB later on.
otherwise, the second choice is also good - Z906. digital inputs available here as well.

I got final quote of Rs.25,000 for Yamaha YHT 196 and 2 years' additional warranty from Reliance Digital.

How is this quote ?

I have auditioned them with movie disc they had as I forgot my HDD at home :@

the price is apt i think. i suppose its not a demo piece?
if you could still stretch your budget, you could get the acclaimed YHT-299 for 32k i think, from RD Ghatkopar/RD Express at Viviana Mall, Thane. its getting increasingly difficult to source now. :D

P.S. - search for onkyo-s3400 too. you may get it for i think ~26k if available.

32K is impossible for me. [emoji37]

nevermind then. and that HTiB, i don't suppose any owner would like to sell it too, unless in serious need of money. so let it be.

i edited my post to include onkyo-s3400 too. some like its sound better. do check if its available, and if yes, try to bring the price to 25-26k if not already, or may be even less (25-26k was its price early this year).

also, i would recommend to place a WTB request for a denon 1312xp for local test-and-purchase.

Final price for Yamaha YHT 196 is ₹25k with 2 years' additional warranty from Reliance Digital. MRP is ₹28k. Onkyo is not readily available.

Have any experience with Reliance Digital if they call back later again and offer some more discount ? They have taken my contact details.
