I have a hathway unlimited connection in Nasik(i guess its a 64k line) i get d/l speeds upto 5 to 6 KB/s but the browsing is super duper slow every site takes ages to open!!

I monitored the net activity using bandwidth monitor pro...when there is no site being accessed there no activity i.e. nothing in the background is accessing the net but however when i try to open any site the bandwidth being utilised shows arnd 4-6KB/sec but all sites take ages to load!! and this is realy frustrating...coz even when i had a 40k connection in mumbai accessing websites was a brezee...:@

can any1 help me out?????????

running windows xp with sp2

Could be DNS probs... more likely, your ISP is delivering corrupt packets or something... resulting in a lot of corrupt data, which uses bandwidth but is otherwise worthless.

yeah, bu in all likelihood, it 's a data packetcorruption ralted issue....

Try downloading a file from a decent server,,,try any of the Singapore mirrors on Tucows.com

If the file download happens slower than 6KBps, you have the problem with the data packets

what r the ping responses?
try some diff dns like onion servers i mean dfree dns';s etc they sometimes boost conenctions of problem is wit ur dns.

^^ pings are decent when i connect to the TeamSpeak server my bro has in the UK i get pings below 200ms when the codec is Speex 25.9

I wonder about the data corruption issue. If that were the case, the bandwidth utilization would be very low (not the 6 KBps you say), as the corrupt packets would not show up to the OS at all.

DNS errors seem to be most likely. In fact, they are the only possible reason why your dlds are normal, and pings are normal but page loads are slow.

Let me explain.

In the case of a download, once the IP address of the remote machine is determined, DNS falls out of play and there is no more work on that side. But in the case of a webpage, DNS lookups might be required much more as each object on the page might be loaded from a different domain. What is also possible is that the DNS caching module on your machine is corrupt, and does not do any caching, in which case there will be a large number of DNS requests emanating from your machine, which can slow down stuff.

Try this: ipconfig /flushdns

Open up a page in a web browser. Browse a bit. If the problem persists

ipconfig /displaydns and see whether there are any cached DNS entries. If there are, then check the pings to your DNS server, ideally, they should be low.
