Hi,

My ISP in Navi Mumbai, Dvois SSV, is offering me a free installation of Fiber Optic cable and replace the existing copper cable. They also claim that by switching to Fiber Optic cable will enable a 1:1 ratio instead of the current 1:8.

The offering seems to good to be true so wanted to know opinions.

1:8 to 1:1 should be the connection to their local node, not to the provider from which they buy bandwidth. Also the reliability might improve, especially if you're having problems now.

Consider the cost of the FMC, either upfront or monthly rental.

Also, be aware the FMC will need a power point inside your home.

Upgrade man. Free hai na. bas!

Hilarious. What's this Contention ratio even in 2017. Thankfully, ACT made me forget contention ratio back in 2010. :)

I know and that's the one thing inconvenient to me as I've assigned space and power points to all computer peripherals. I'll have the ISP guys over and see the solution they propose. I suppose if I want to be future ready then I'll have to make a few agents l adjustments.

They left a brochure outside my door which says the rent is 50 bucks a month. clarify if this is also 'free'.
