System Restarts ...help !!

hmm .. ever since i changed the memory on my system , I am facing a weird problem which occurs randomly.

Sometimes (infact most of the times) when I turn on my machine .. the POST and all takes place and then just before windows starts loading .. my machine reboots itself and I get the "Windows could not be started properly message..and choose from the following options n blah blah" .. I always press enter to start windows normally and it loads without any problems. This has been happening for past one week or so and I was just ignoring it all this time.

Today when my system rebooted as usual after the POST screen ..i got ARTIFACTS all over the screen and I almost shat in my pants thinking that my gpu is dying or something .. I immediately booted into Windows and ran RHTDRIBL for half an hour and did not notice any artifacting or anything. Relaxed a bit then.

Now what could be the cause of this problem ?? I dont think my ram is at fault though ill still run MEMTEST86 for a couple of hours and check it.

Another reason I think is a faluty psu but then why does this thing happen only when the system boots up and not when playing games or stressing my rig using RHTDRIBL or SP2004 ??

Will be getting my new Zebby 640W psu tomm and will test my rig on that tomm .. Meanwhile any suggestions from you guys will be helpful.

Thanks.

I think since you have UCCC,it would be benifical to go to DFI-Street and check out what are the BIOS options available there for UCCC.

They must have some new BIOS for UCCC.

Try fiddling around with different BIOS versions.

Also try playing with the timings and all.

problem persists with my new psu also .. and i am not able to find a decent bios for UCCC on DFI Street also .. posted there too but nobody helped.

btw howz this site for dfi bios',
http://www.dfi-bios.tk/

any dfi nf4 ultra owners using any third party bios' ?? please lemme know. thanks.

have you manually set them as 3-3-3-8 in bios or are the settings in the bios on "AUTO" ?? , if on Auto set them manually ...

deejay .. the timings were set manually by me ..

okie here is the a64 tweaker screenie ,

Ok, Your trc should be 11 (tRC = tRAS + tRP formula)

Row Cycle Time

This BIOS feature controls the memory module's Row Cycle Time or tRC. The row cycle time determines the minimum number of clock cycles a memory row takes to complete a full cycle, from row activation up to the precharging of the active row.

Formula-wise, the row cycle time (tRC) = minimum row active time (tRAS) + row precharge time (tRP). Therefore, it is important to find out what the tRAS and tRP parameters are before setting the row cycle time.

If the row cycle time is too long, it can reduce performance by unnecessarily delaying the activation of a new row after a completed cycle. Reducing the row cycle time allows a new cycle to begin earlier.

However, if the row cycle time is too short, a new cycle may be initiated before the active row is sufficiently precharged. When this happens, there may be data loss or corruption.

For optimal performance, use the lowest value you can, according to the tRC = tRAS + tRP formula. For example, if your memory module's tRAS is 7 clock cycles and its tRP is 4 clock cycles, then the row cycle time or tRC should be 11 clock cycles.

So set trc to 11 in bios/save/reboot. Ofcourse it can be one among many reasons of your system restart.

set as follows and try ...
1) read preamble = 6
2) max async latency = 8
3) trc = 9 (instead of 7)

post back ur observations ....

hmm guys trc shud be set to 11 or 9 ?

EDIT : And should I make the changes in timings using my BIOS or using A64 Tweaker ?

I use to face similar problem. did u check yr hdd (chkdsk), mine had few bad sectors samsung 80 gb hardly a year old, replaced it now working fine.
also check yr hdd cables.

I personally refrain from using A64 tweaker. i prefer to make the changes in the bios. although A64Tweaker can be good for testing purposes....

You can try any / both settings for trc ...

NB: it could be a software issue too ....meaning the dirty bit might be set for ur paging file which under some circumstances could give that error you mentioned in the first post. solution would be to recreate ur paging file.
