I just bid and won a HTC HD7 from ebay.com for $305.

PHONE HTC HD7 Black (T-Mobile) Smartphone | eBay

I'm going to be using SNS for getting it delivered here. I'm yet to make the payment. Now, the seller has mentioned that the unlock code is easily available for less than $5 and I wanted some guidance for the same. Can someone point me to the cheapest (and reliable) site/link. The lowest I found on ebay was for $9 and the seller has a stellar rating.

UNLOCK CODE for TMOBILE HTC HD2 Leo T8585 HD7 Google G1 | eBay

Please comment on the deal and help me out! :)

The deal for brand new HD7 is good. I still think you could have gotten one for a little lower. But never mind that and Congratulations.

As far unlocking HD7 goes, from my personal experience it cost from 29.99 to 39.99 dollars. I unlocked it by meeting with a person in Denver who had HTC database of codes and it cost me around $35.

This unlock deal looks good. But did you read this description:

"For HTC phones; the more recent the manufacture date, the more expensive the unlock code. HTC have four databases, Old Database, New Record Database, SuperNew Database, and Factory Not Found Database. Therefore, to avoid refund and hassle, we give you the options to check before you buy. This only checks HTC New Record Database. If the code is available, just click "Buy Now" and our system will redirect you back to the original eBay listing and you could purchase with “Buy It Now”.

But if your IMEI is NOT FOUND, below are our suggested eBay listing that have unlock code for your phone or you may visit our eBay Store and look for our higher price HTC Factory Code which will check under HTC SuperNew Database or Not Found Database (the higher the price, the most recent the database).

WARNNING: DO NOT buy this listing if you check and code NOT FOUND, because our system will return NOT FOUND. We ONLY check your IMEI base on HTC New Record Database and the listing you buy. Don’t waste your time, buy the correct listing.

If you have any questions, feel free to email us at eBay@UnlockUSA.com or UnlockUSA@gmail.com. Or Chat thru Yahoo Messenger: UnlockUSA or MSN Messenge: UnlockUSA@hotmail.com

Best Regards,

So ask for an IMEI number from the seller and check with the site to make sure they have the code. Else you might have to spend more for unlocking it. Also ask the seller if he can unlock it for a little more and then ship it. That way it is easier. Good Luck and let us know after everything is figured out so that prospective buyers can use it for reference.

Thanks for replying. :)

Yeah, I had read that part. A quick search on google for the same resulted in many sites giving the code for $13-$20. I have messaged the seller for the IMEI number of the phone so that I can confirm the same myself. I might ask him to unlock the phone and then send it to me and hold him for the $5 indicative price of the unlock code on the listing.

Depending on the price of the unlock code, it will cost me around Rs 15k; though I am a little depressed for not checking the price here earlier. It seems that the same phone is costing around Rs. 19k here on http://www.letsbuy.com/htc-hd-7--black-p-11851?osCsid=tdpf8i67qk8vq3ao0sp0hpr6a1 . Almost everywhere else the price is around Rs 25-28k. A legit 10k price cut from HTC? :(

It seems that you own/owned a HD7.. I used it for a few minutes and simply loved the aesthetics and UI. What are your comments on the same?

Frankly speaking, i don't think it is a good deal.Rather apply coupon at letsbuy and get it with warranty for 18k or 17.8k, depending on the coupon code you apply.

The only WP7 device worth importing is the Samsung Focus as you can get one for around 11k.

I loved HD7 and currently my Dad is using it. Actually I bought it for my Dad and I had a chance to use it for a while. It is absolutely good and my dad also likes it. The main selling points for me (for my dad mostly)

1) Bigger screen 4.3 inch screen

2) Excellent build and design. Not a plastic back

3) Windows Phone 7 has such an excellent software and user experience.

4) Kickstand

5) Excellent music and sound quality. It has Dolby and Surround sound.

To conclude, it is an Desire HD for Windows with design changes.

305$ bit over i guess.. last month i bought brand new one for around 250$ and got the unlock code from cellunlock.net for 19.99$ with in 2 hr :) hope this will help you.

Edit: just saw the listing... its not good deal at all, better buy it from letsbuy.com with icicilb coupon...it will have warranty too..
304 + 10(local shipping) + 15(SNS +Custom) + 20(unlock) = almost 350$, in INR it will come minimum 16K for a piece without warranty.

Hmm, that's what I was thinking too now. But I have already won it in the auction. Can I back out now? :(

"No. Just as would be the case in a "live" auction, eBay auction bids are considered legal and binding on both bidder and seller. As a bidder, you must pay for the item and receive it if you win, and likewise, the seller must transfer ownerhship of the item to you and deliver it to you once you have paid for it as a winning bidder.

There are three exceptions to this rule, but are very clear and narrowly defined:

1) You may back out of a bid if you have accidentally mis-entered your bid. For example, a bid is not binding if you entered $1000 (one thousand dollars) for an item on which you intended to bid only $10.00 (ten dollars).

2) You may back out of a bid if after you bid the seller substantially alters the item's description or specifications in such a way that the value of the item is significantly altered.

3) You may back out of a bid if after you bid a seller who you were previously able to contact can no longer be contacted or no longer responds to your inquiries between the time of the bid and auction close"

Maybe other members can shed light on this.

^ That's what I read too. I would hate wasting the time of the seller like that.

I had made the calculation regarding the listing saying that codes can be obtained for less than $5 and I remembered people getting the unlock codes for Samsung Focus for $3. Didn't know that it varied from 1 manufacturer to another. :(

Also, this price drop from around 28k to 19k must have happened recently because I remember checking the price of the phone a few days back.

Anyways, I'm waiting for the seller to get back to me. Will see how it goes on from there.
