My CPU AMD Athlon 2 240, idles at around 50 C and today while playing COD BO, went upto 100C, but the PC did not shut.

I opened my case up to check if the hsf is properly seated it seems it is as it wasn't moving or anything. The other temperatures are fine HDD never goes above 45-46 C and GFX (HD 4650) stays below 56-57.

I'm a bit scared to reseat the processor myself, should I go to the local PC store and get it reseated ?

The only question which looms me is, why did the PC not shutdown ?

Those are the temperatures 10 mins after playing COD BO.

Is the board with Rev version 2.01G and/or with Bios ver. 1702 and above? You will know the Rev version usually below the pcie slot next to the board's model number. If its not, try updating bios to the latest one.

Okay, I updated the BIOS but CPU Vcore seems not to have fallen. I updated to 1804. I changed the CPU Vcore to power saving in jumperfree settings in the bios and got it down to 1.39.

Should I update to any older edition, I 'm getting a bit freaked about whether this overvoltage is frying my CPU.

Those are very high temps and even your mobo is hot, just check all the components ,if anything is burnt, try to re attach the heat sink, and increase the airflow in ur case.

I reseated the HSF, and as said beofore updated BIOS to latest version and set the Vcore parameter to power saving in the BIOS.

You can lower down the voltage of the vcore manually or see if its a bios issue...

remove heatsink apply some good thermal paste and see if it works...

a friend of mine was getting 80c at load in a gfx card...

He applied cf3 thermal paste and now its around 55c max at load...

Can't the bios doesn't give an option to reduce vcore below the power saving mode I have. Is there anyway to reduce vcore using windows ?

I'm thinking of sending asus an email.

This chipset is a big pain,i used it for one built, very less options,to reduce temp enable cool and quite, try if amd over drive works, dint work on the other mobo i tried but its worth a shot, from there u can lower vcore, even try to update bios.

I've done it all Cabby cleaned, BIOS updated. Need to reduce the volts. Will try AMD overdrive but I don't think it will work as it is for AMD Chipsets only.

I am also having problem with my intel t2080 processor. It heats up to 80 C !! I have to run it on 50% power to keep it cool.. I also apllied thermal paste but no result.. Should I change the heat sink or processor?
