welll my uncle baught a new machine, from hcl amd 64 2800+ gigabyte mobo
and sony dvd writer.
The thing is that the machine's for office use and we have older versions of tally that supports full networking properly. and these only wrk on windows 98.
but the thing is that in Windows 98 everythings working fine except the damn dvd writer. whever we enter a dvd the dvd plays and starts stuttering very badly, but it works absolutely fiine in xp.
What do i do now? ive already installed the unofficial service pack for 98 and still the same damn problem comes..... is there a conflict between sony dvd writer and windows 98 on an amd 64? are there any patches or stuff available to solve this issue?
i mean the only options available for me are change the brand of the dvd, or get a p4 machine (which my uncle should have gotten ,as the comps only gonna be used for office work.. wat a waste of good hardware :P but i cant blame him its that computer guy topi pehna liya :P).
anyways getting back to the topic... so have any of u guyz faced the problem? if not with sony or with any other brand of dvd writer ,using a 64bit machine and windows 98se....
HELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

If its a via board, install the via 4in1 drivers. If its an nvidia chipset(which i highly doubt), then install the appropriate chipset drivers. Probably DMA is not working and thats why dvds are stuttering.

so u saying theres a problem with the mobo drivers? and nothing to do with the amd 64? its a gigabyte mobo given by hcl
because the comp guy is saying that theres a conflict btw the 64bit processor and windows 98 (this only cause the dvd's wrkin fine in xp).... amm a lil help where can i find the drivers

How can there be an issue with the proccy and an OS/ The guy is bullshiting do as Chaos suggested, install the latest chipset drivers. And wait for Techhead's reply too...

yeah i know that guy is bullshitting ppl here are real morons man , when i got my 9800pro i went for a look out for 400 watts -500watts psu some of em actually told me that a 500 waats psu dosent exist :P so thats why i need forums like te to keep up to date and techies like u to help me out  where do i download the chipset drivers from? gigabyte website or via?

what board is it first ? dont install via drivers anyhow without verifying that its a via mobo
use everest or something if you are not sure

yeah dma is enabled and yeah thats the mobo u think it wil support what the via chipset drivers on the link that aces gave?
If its that board, those drivers will work. I'm 99% sure now that its a dma issue.

i had this wierd problem...it showed UDMA 33 in the BIOS....but there wasnt any DMA option in the device manager (WinXP) this problem was solved when i installed the nForce ATA dirvers, DMA was enabled as soon as i installed tht drivers and restarted....

PS : have a nForce2 AthlonXP mobo :)

^Sunny, better use the default MS IDE drivers for NF2, waaay too many problems with the Nvidia IDE drivers.
Yup... after installing nf ide drivers, once it took me 19mins to write a dvd at 8x :S. Removed it immediately after that :P.

i updated the drivers enableed dma still nothing is happening..........the same prblem is coming....
Try copying some big file from the drive and note the cpu usage. Does it spike to 100%? If it does, even though dma is shown as enabled, its actually disabled.

copy a big file..play a song in the background...if u dont hear continous play...then its DMA not enabled

Im Trying To Play A Dvd Movie And The Thing Starts Stuttering , I Tried Both Enabling And Disabling Dma Still All Dvd's Stutter. But Its Wrkin Fine In Xp.....
