Laptops The MSI Wind challenges the EeePC

well.. it seems like somethin i could get from us.. :) but the deal is windows version is for $550.. which honestly is expensiv (~22k+) .. and considerin msi is a small company spares repair in india would be a prob..

although one outcome of this would be hp reducing the price on its 2133... those jackasses thot they can rip customers of 750$ for their machines.. !! hehe.. an if hp comes for bout $500 i might think bout gettin tat.. !!

yeah delguy.. tats wat i was thinkin.. prob is bro comes 2 india from us in mid june.. so wateva i want either umpc or iphone has 2 be decided before tat..;-)

If you have the option for a lot cheaper Linux version which is the case here. Buy the linux version. The RAM upgrade is very easy and cheap.

For a device like this Linux actually even makes sense.

wel.. iv got absolutely no experience wit linux.. am worse tan a noob at it :( hehe.. ! how easy or bad is it?

ohh.. an jus realized both linux an windows r ta same price only benefit wit linux is 20gb ssd instead of 12gb in windows one.!

On second thoughts id rather wait for dell to comeout wit its umpc.. an once thers competition (aka better prices) then buy it..

In the meanwhile wev got ta iphone 2 concentrate on.!

And also the iphone is sold out in most stores in us! a new model comes out most probably on 9th june.. an my cousin comes back befor..!! damn!!

Thank heavens for this

10" screen, Atom 1.6 proccey, 2 dimm slots, 1.3 mp webcam, inbuilt bluetooth (xp version) and wifi, a plethora of ports, those pretty black looks and cheaper pricing than the eeepc ...its awesome.

This makes the eeepc look so bad.

I want ssd to remain as a viable option though. But with 2gb ram, i guess it wont matter if you go for a big hdd. That 10 inch screen alone makes it better.

Thats with new EeePc. MSI offeres almost ditto same config on both linux and windows. Major difference is RAM. Which honestly is really cheap now even in India.

As a desktop OS for day to day work and productivity, Linux should do really well with minimal learning curve.

Interface on EeePC is dead simple. A 10 year old kid will understand it and start using the device.

MSI interface is not known yet.

You many not be ready for Linux as primary os on PC. But that does not mean you cant use it on this platform.

Correct, but i feel that varies person to person depending on ur needs.

Now I have an EeePC, which I am gonna give to my dad.

Now if I was gonna use it, I would give Linux a fair shot, use it as required and then decide.

However, since its gonna be my dad using it, I am gonna preload Xp/2Gb RAM/8Gb SD and then give it to him. Simple fact is that he needs it only for presentations mostly, so he ll need to be able to open stuff created in powerpoint exactly. + hes gonna be movin stuff from windows machines in MS Office formats etc. + the learning curve for him. Hell, it took long enuf to get him to move to Xp from windows 98 ;) getting him to use linux side by side is gonna be a royal pain, esp since I live away from home and cant be there all the time to explain things to him. Windows he can figure out since he knows his way around.

He can do all that on EeePC without needing to use windows. And easier.

Have you seen EeePC interface in person. Is just point and click. Its more like a phone interface with icons than PC menu interface :P

Its really easy. Maybe take him for a demo of EeePC at showroom. Let him decide.
