The Nifty Fifty dilemma

Guide
After trying few shots with my 18-55 Kit lens (on 550d), I have thought of getting 50mm 1.8 II prime. The lens have been praised and praised about the images it produces. However has been equally been warned about getting stuck in your camera's face. Something to be really afraid of.

So need some inputs from people using the lens, who put it on and off occasionally, about its durability. And opinions on any equally good alternative for similar budget.

I am getting the lens for 5700 (after a 1000 off coupon). Not sure if its a good price.

Personally, i've been using the 1.8 50mm prime for a year now, and i love it. As durable as any other lens.

Build quality wise 50mm f/1.8 is okayish...not very good but not very bad either...and I'm using this lens for past 1.5 years along with many other lenses and it's working perfectly...never had the issue of getting it stuck with camera face...if you want a better alternative then go for 50mm f/1.4 USM...but that costs a lot

(Was a little sarcastic here

) But yes, the lens reportedly gets stuck in Camera. It would rotate but do not come out. And this is not uncommon. Wide variety of victims too - XSi, T1i, 1D MK II ...
