Hey everyone,

I'm starting this new thread for Podcast Recommendations & Reviews to help us build a centralized, up-to-date repository for all things podcast-related. I noticed some older threads on this topic are now locked due to inactivity, so let's keep the conversation fresh here!

Please use the following format when posting:
  • Podcast Name:
  • Your Rating:
  • Genre/ One-line Description:
  • Why You Recommend It / Review:
  • Reasons someone might not like it?:
Feel free to share your favorites, hidden gems, or even podcasts you didn't enjoy (and why). Let's make this a go-to resource for discovering new listens!
Looking forward to your recommendations!

I will start with a couple of my recommendations:

1. Radiolab - 9/10 - https://radiolab.org/about
Genre/About:
long-form journalism podcast that blends investigative journalism with storytelling, focusing on a wide array of topics including science, philosophy, politics, legal history, and culture
Why do you like it?
Love the hosts, production quality, kind of stories they pick up
Reasons someone might not like it?
Might not like that it doesn't have a single theme and you don't necessarily "learn useful things or productive things"

2. Freakonomics Radio - 9/10 - https://freakonomics.com/series/freakonomics-radio/
Genre/About: Freakonomics Radio uncovers the hidden side of everything, using economics and data-driven thinking to explore the riddles of everyday life and human behavior
Why do you like it?
Love the host, kind of topics they pick up is really close to my heart (I am a numbers guy into economics and analytics), lots of aha moments
Reasons you might not like it?
Some people might find it too technical and numbers oriented

The WAN Show
My rating: 8.5/10
Genre: Weekly rundown of whatever happens in tech and adjacent industries, and behind the scenes of how their YouTube channels(LTT) and merch business operate.
Why I would recommend it: If you love tech, then you'd like this. there's some good banter. It's pretty long too.
Why I would not recommend it: Starts late most of the time. A good chunk of the show is a Q&A session, I usually skim through the questions I find relevant via timestamps. You may not like the tone/style, which depends on personal preference.

Most people don’t watch the WAN Show for actual news, but for the parasocial connection with two cool tech dudes. Moreover, it's not a bad way to stay up to date with the news. I used to listen to it religiously during long commutes. These days, I occasionally skim through the topics I want to hear their opinion on.
