Guys. How is the Symbian^3 experience in Nokia C5 vs. E5?

Need to suggest either of these, but still undecided, QWERTY is NOT a requirement..

Do you know what S^3 is? Neither of those has S^3.
My Bad. I got confused with version 3.. Neverthless, your views on my query??

I guess that is another confusion Nokia has created. New models don't necessarily mean they come bundled with S3.

Hell Yeah!

Can anyone suggest symbina^3 devices from the current crop which can be termed as VFM ??

Requirements are

1. Should have most of the basic features from smartphone perpective (wifi, BT, GPRS/EDGE/3G), audio and video support.

2. Ability to use phone as wifi hotspot (OOB functionality or some hack/app is fine), like android offers

3. Value for money - absolutely necessary. Max to max 15k (cheaper the better). I can compromise on some fronts if necessary.

4. Future proof (not fully but...) - Like in the anna update should be supported and also the new things that people have been talking about like the update which will be cross between iOS, android and all (some one link me to any place where i can find more info on this or on dhruv is my link here :p)

Also what is this QT thing, anyone care to explain and how is it relevant in terms of sym^3

Also need to know whether SYM^3 phones support installing of files meant for other symbian like V5 etc phones. I know this may be a stupid query but when i had 5230 i found that some apps used to tell me that it is not compatible with my phone but allowed me to install them and they worked too (eg symtorrent)

Get c6-01,cheap and cheerful.
Fits your bill very well.
Qt is a application framework, widget toolkit ,present in many platforms and easily portable.Eases the process of making application and porting (eg Symbian to Maemo/Meego and vice versa).
S^3 phones would run S^1 (S60v5) applications without much trouble in most of the cases.

^Thanks for the QT info.

Being noob i thought that it would be supporting android apps too like convert any android app for symbian, something like that :ashamed: God knows what i was thinking.

Btw is there any good advantage leveraged using QT ?? Like as symbian and Maemo/Meego are both nokia's so they can anyways develop apps for both simultaneously (same app i mean), so how is QT beneficial or it is just that it will convert current apps for the other platform and in future say they make app for sym 3 and just use QT to port it to meego device and vice versa ? :S

The C6-01 is your best bet. Me too looking to buy this great device soon and it will support all future updates of Symbian^3.

Btw can you link me to something which mentions or give insights into the future updates (anna and more) ??

Nothing precise though, i too was curious about the Anna update and google threw this up showing a sneek preview of the Anna on the upcoming X7. GSMArena has previewed the new web browser as well. People who have something more concrete, please post the link here :).

And this video was posted before as well iirc, but linking it again anyways. Its for the MeeGo OS though.

What Qt enables is the re-useability of the code. If are into some application development ,you will know that all the code you write cant be taken across various platforms/configs as such. Due to the same reason many platform independent lingo's/framework's emerged. Those are a huge topic on its own,so i don't want to digress. Here we get most of the benefits of c++ and get the benefit of easy portability in short. So idea is you write some code which can be re-used in windows/linux/mac/symbian,so your efforts for writing and maintaining are reduced by many times.

You can see the official/unofficial ports here Qt (framework) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Android has some community ports, but still long way to go.

I know that symbian^ 3 phones support Divx/Xvid out of the box but need to know whether they can play MKVs too (H264) ? I am sure they may not be supported natively and if that is the case then do we have apps to play the non natively supported video files ??

Also one query regarding N8/E7. Do they have ONLY HDMI for TV connectivity or also using composite cable ? (i guess C7, C6-01 would be using composite cable).

Please clarify.

It plays MKVs OOTB. But not all...its hit and miss. Also note that (at least) C7 does not support AC-3 audio. I think only the ones with HDMI out (N8-00, E7-00) support it.
Check this post of mine http://www.techenclave.com/mobile-phones/nokia-n8-thread-176188-26.html#post1703802

There is no 3rd party app which can enhance the play options...its pretty neat (in terms of codec support) anyways ;)
Not sure about composite with N8-00 / E7-00 :)
