I expect similar scenes to play out in other 'hyperlocal' firms. Wafer thin margins, huge spend on ads and logistics without a well thought out expansion plan.

You bet.
I spent a couple months helping my company hire developers.
We looked at a hiring marketplace and it's crazy what these funded companies have done. Sub-standard candidates with 1-2 years of experience were asking for (and being paid) 17L-20L+ easily.
A couple of them had skill-levels and portfolios that justified the price, but the vast majority of them were just average developers spoiled by these companies.
 
Gotta post this. Something no IIT/ IITJEE will prepare you for.

Not just e-commerce mates, lotta companies do this shit. Gigantic salaries for fking MBAs and shit salary and toxic work culture for rest of the employees.

Just finished reading the articles. Not an expert but I feel that they (and many other companies) burn too much money in marketing and advertisement. Creativity is the key. Also the "overpaid MBA's" is also one of the problems. Walking out of meetings? You've got to be joking. This is not the ****ing parliament assembly. If you care so much about your ego you shouldn't be working/applying to startups in the first place, especially the younger ones. And in this case the CEO/board screwed-up. Glad that the crisis is over.

Gotta say the laid-off-employees handled the situation in a mature way. Hope they find jobs in better environment elsewhere.

I love how these people are in denial. Probably for PR-damage control lol.
Another thing about these companies which amaze me is how their founders are doing well financially but their employees do not. How exactly are they spending the investors' money? O.o
Instead of trying to strike rich quickly why not be firm with their staff salaries payment? Its like they lose their way the moment they get a decent funding. Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither was alibaba.
