Here is a round up of the best Value for Money smartphones in each price range, i.e. Rs. 25,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively.
LG Optimus 4X HD

With all the latest quad core smartphones and 1080p displays and other technology advancements and new products, one thing has been forgotten. Affordability. And in that segment, LG's first generation Optimus 4X HD is leading by leaps and bounds. The LG Optimus 4X is LG's first quad core (but not the first quad core to the market, unlike LG Optimus 2X which was the first dual core) and is nicely built. It is one of the more compact quad core smartphones as well, and it's now available for just Rs. 25,990. That, is a pretty nice price for 4 core horse power.

LG Optimus 4X HD Specifications

  • nVidia Tegra 3 chipset
  • 1.5 GHz quad core ARM Cortex A9 CPU
  • nVidia GeForce 12 core ULP GPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 4.7" HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display
  • True HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen
  • 8 MP rear cam, auto focus and LED flash
  • 1080p video recording @ 30 fps
  • 1.3 MP front facing camera
  • 16 GB of internal memory (12 GB user accessible)
  • expandable storage upto 32 GB via micro SD card
  • 8.9 mm thick, 133 grams weight
  • 2,150 mAh Li-ion battery
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

The Optimus 4X HD has a nice rectangular bar shaped design. The display is a nice 4.7" spread. Under the hood is a Tegra 3 quad core chipset and a GeForce ULP GPU. 1 GB of RAM adds to the 8 MP of multimedia horse power. The only place we find complaints about is the Android 4.0 ICS operating system, which honestly is a big downer. Here's hoping for a Jelly Bean update soon, the LG Optimus G only got it this week.

Sony Xperia S

Sony's Xperia S is a pretty smartphone. Originally introduced nearly a year ago in Q1 2012, this smartphone lives on for it's appealing design and nice Timescape UI, in addition to the brilliant LED backlit display with Sony's very own Bravia Engine running on top of it as well as the 12 MP majestic camera module. The phone also packs 32 GB of storage (internal) and is all set to receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in 2 months (March), making it an overall all rounder for the price. Let's see what's it got inside.

Sony Xperia S Specifications

The price is set well for a powerful multimedia smartphone.
Intel Lava XOLO X900

Intel launched its first smartphone into the market with not-so-renowned Lava. The Lava XOLO X900 is the first Intel x86 Atom based Android smartphone, and it isn't too shabby.

Powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom with Hyper Threading, the phone is fast enough to beat dual cores and come close to or even match some quad core ARM based SOCs, way to go for a single core chipset. The phone has a decent 4" display with an odd 1024 x 600 pixels resolution, which however grant it a very high 295 ppi pixels density. The design is industrial, and sets the phone apart.

Lava XOLO X900 Specifications

  • Intel ATOM Z2460 SOC
  • 1.6 GHz single core Saltwell CPU with Hyper Threading
  • 400 MHz PowerVR SGX540 GPU
  • 1 GB of 32-bit dual channel LPDDR2 RAM
  • 4.03" (1024 x 600 pixels) resolution display, 295 ppi
  • 8 MP rear camera, 1080p @ 30 fps
  • 1.3 MP front facing camera
  • 16 GB of internal storage
  • 1,460 mAh non-removable Li-ion battery
  • Android 4.0 ICS

The battery size may be paltry but the phone just about manages a day of moderate usage.

Lava XOLO X900 Buy in India

The Lava XOLO X900 launched for a steep price of Rs. 22,000. However, over the months the price of this smartphone has dropped to a point where it's value for money cannot be ignored anymore.

For Rs. 15,000 the smartphone is an excellent choice for first time Android buyers. You simply cannot get the same features and stunning performance at a similar price.
