Standalone drive by Imation :

Nokia's forthcoming N91 phone will also use a 2.1cm 4GB drive.

  • Smaller drives are generally better able to cope with being dropped than their larger cousins because their moving parts have less mass.
  • Toshiba claims that its new drive can withstand a force of 1,000G while operating.
  • This is roughly equivalent to an unprotected fall onto a hard surface from a height of one metre.

Future :
  • Toshiba to develop a 2.1cm drive with a capacity of 10GB by using perpendicular recording technology to pack more data onto the disk.

Never before has something so small, just slightly larger than a postage stamp, held so much(4GB) :wow: .....But Toshiba has made it possible......Toshiba is pushing the limit on the small form factor storage with its latest market introduction.....the MK4001MTD,a multi-gigabyte hard disk drive (HDD) that is just 0.85-inches in diameter, only a quarter the size of a 1.8-inch hard disk drive:wow: .

Mounting dimensions are 0.94x1.26-inches, with a thickness of 0.197-inches. The drive uses 0.12-Watts in standby and 0.60-Watts during write operations. Running on 3.0-Volts over the 0° to 70°C temperature range, it has one platter, two heads, and a 3600rpm rotational speed.

This new hard drive from Toshiba could open up new possibilites in mobile storage :jerry: .You could be seeing this technology in cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, digital audio players, camcorders, and more in the near future...
