The regulator has sought to address issues like standalone NIXI nodes, non-reporting of routes by ISPs, cost of leased lines and others.

Wednesday, May 31, 2006: New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has suggested steps to improve the effectiveness for National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI). A more effective NIXI would ensure better management of Internet traffic, originating from and heading for India, by routing the same within the country.
Non-interconnected (standalone) NIXI nodes has been identified as one of the major concerns for the broadcast regulator. Besides, another issue, i.e. non-reporting of routes on the NIXI by some Internet service providers (ISP), has resulted in domestic Internet traffic being routed via abroad, particularly the US. At this point of time, only a limited number of ISPs have joined the NIXI node.
