Trojan Freezes Computer, Demands Ransom

A new kind of malware circulating on the Internet freezes a computer and then asks for a ransom paid through the Western Union Holdings money transfer service.

A sample of the Trojan horse virus was sent to Sophos, a security vendor, said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant. The malware, which Sophos named Troj/Ransom-A, is one of only a few viruses so far that have asked for a ransom in exchange for releasing control of a computer, Cluley said.

 
He wil be in Russia or somewhere safe. At most, once they find out about it, Western Union will freeze his account, but not before he has withdrawn a few thousand dollars from it.
 
I hope people aren't dumb enough to actually pay him...unless you got important office xls's and ppt's which can't be put at risk.
 
russia ahh i always have a dream to have a box hosted in russia :d i love russian law regarding this ;). Once i heard an american in a chatroom saying the ruskies cant do jackshit the next second i saw one of my friend logging his outers config tables :D lol :P
