Hi,

My uncle has old intel P3 based PC which he is discarding. He asked if I need one, to which I have agreed, hoping to convert it into HTPC. ;)

I don't have much idea on its other configuration. Configuration would be more on the lines which was there 5-6 years back. :S

Please let me what should I ensure there is present in this PC to convert it into HTPC.

My main use of HTPC will be:

1) Watching movies. (max 480-780P).
2) Internet browsing
3) Recording TV shows/ time shift ( I have hathway digital cable connection)
4) No gaming

At present I have 29" CRT flatron Samsung TV, to which it would like to connect HTPC. ( I hope we can connect HTPC to non flatron TVs also)
Please help/ advise....

There is almost no chance this RIG of your can fulfill even the basic tasks of an HTPC as the P3 board is very old <no IGP also and if it is present only VGA out> doubt if it even will be able decode the media-content. Best bet is to donate this PC and buy a new RIG for yourself.
