CPU/Mobo Two RAM modules, one works in both slots, one does in just one

System
Intel E8400 3.0Ghz
Gigabyte G41-combo (2 slots for DDR3 and 2 slots for DDR2)
Transcend 4 GB DDR3 (works in both slots)
Corsair value select 4 GB DDR3 (works only in one slot) (belongs to a friend)
Few HDDs
Palit 4850 512MB
Corsair VX450
Win 7 ultimate

Currently both RAM installed and PC is working fine.

What could be the problem?

as far as i've read online, this may not be necessarily a problem with your ram or motherboard at all... many people have faced slightly similar issues with a particular ram stick not working in one slot while some other brand working.. some motherboards are sensitive to the kind of ram even though the frequency and basic tech specs are similar. have you tried using each stick individually without installing the other along with it??[DOUBLEPOST=1391585346][/DOUBLEPOST]many motherboards having 4 slots, also do not support ram installed in the immediate adjacent slot. eg. if there are 4 slots, many mobos require that you install memory in either 1 & 3, or 2 & 4.

Is it a ram kit or both are individual ram sticks ? Coz even if the specifications match(frequency & timings) the ICs on the ram may not be the same if both of the ram sticks are different.
