Hi guys, Im facing a peculiar problem with U-Torrent.
All my Torrent downloads used to go to downloads folder. Then I used to copy paste them to either movies, music, documents & so on.
Now, doing this, I inadvertantly created duplicate copies & my disc space vanished. It was only then that I realised of the problem & started freeing up the disc space by deleting duplicate enteries.
This created another problem, U-Torrent shows errors for the files & doesn't seed anymore. I like giving back & seeding, so want to know what can I do to start seeding the downloaded files again?

Also, I guess cut - paste is the right option, is it? Tell me the right way, so that seeding is not hampered in future.

Foremost concern is to start reseeding of the duplicate deleted files, please help me on this!
Thanks

utorrent is still looking for the files at the location where they were originally downloaded.

I am not much into Torrents ( due to 128 KBps Plan :( ), but there is an option which allows to select files which you want to seed from any other location of your hard drive. I think the Option is Upload Torrent with Tracker file AFAIK

:hap2:

Thanks Mrintech, actually Im also new to torrenting, so the numerous queries!

BTW, upload from any location seems interesting, but how to?
In the meantime my ratio is taking a dip because of finished torrents not seeding!
Downloaded torrents are there in my computer, only their location is changed, how to put this right?

Thanks Axeman, that was quick!
Please shed some more light, does the name have to be the same as the original file?

Also, is force checking useful?

& in the preferences table, which are the best setting for directories?

For eg. Im downloading a movie, by default it would go to downloaded files folder, then I used to copy it to movies folder. This practice made duplicate copies.
Now I want to know as to what settings should I resort to in order to avoid duplicate copies & be able to seed properly?

When you initiate the download, change the download location from the default to wherever it is that you want the file to actually go to. That way, you bypass the copy-pasting and Utorrent continues to seed w/o problems. :)

From my experience, force checking helps (and that too, only sometimes) when the downloading has stalled.

Thanks, I have made some changes to the directories, lets see if it works!

BTW, another problem has cropped up, after I deleted some downloaded files & freed ~ 80gb of space, my comp. has slowed down like hell! Its not performing normal tasks & hangs all the time.

I tried defragmenting but it carried on for ~24hrs without stopping, is something wrong? Or is this the normal period?
Also, in my earlier XP, one could see how much defrag is completed & how much reains, a graph also could be seen, but in Vista Im unable to see status. Is there something I can do to check status of defrag?

& any other changes to make my comp run normally(fast)?

Do a chkdsk /f for all your drives, will ensure that misallocated sectors are put right.

First of all clean all junk files from your computer using CCleaner Default Cleaning Settings: CCleaner - Download

Now defrag using: Disk Defrag - Reclaim the Speed Of Your Disks

Thanks, downloading CCleaner.
Hope it doesn't compound matters!

Thanks, chkdsk should be helpful, but my comp. is not opening.
I guess this is done by going into properties of discs.
& how much time does it take to defrag?

Oops! Yeah you must run chkdsk to check for error - I forgot to mention

If your HDD don't have bad sectors than defrag process will run fine and complete depending on fragmentation level of your files and total amount of data in the drives

BTW for chkdsk refer: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

:hap2:

The time to defrag depends upon size of the hard dsik and how much is it occupied by the data. A drive of 40 GB takes approx 1 hour or less.

And ur My computer is not opening? So type defrag x: -f on cmd to defrag. (where x is the drive letter)

Thanks friends, I ran check disk on startup & now defrag is going on, but I think its taking too long time because HD is 250gb.

Im using Vista home, not XP.
Any suggestions to make the downloaded & displaced torrents work again & stablize my ratio?
