Canonical has finally done it. They have released the developer preview for Ubuntu Touch, and according to first reviews it's actually pretty good. Read on to know more!

Ubuntu has been around for quite some time now. Developed by Canonical, Ubuntu is currently the most popular open source Linux distribution. So what does this world popular Linux developer company do? Port their latest and greatest experience to touch devices such as smartphones and tablets as well. Currently the developer preview is available for the following devices.


Ubuntu Touch (official) supported devices list:


  • Samsung Galaxy Nexus
  • LG Nexus 4
  • ASUS Nexus 7

As you can see, Canonical has released their optimized developer preview for the current crop of Google devices.

Ubuntu Touch offers real multi-tasking with twi apps running on the display at the same time (Side view esq). Also included is support for multiple accounts as well as full encryption for all your data. Other features include voice search, and a gesture based navigation system across the board in this OS.

There's more. Ubuntu for phones and tablets runs the same desktop version and so apps developed for one will run across all platforms. Amazing work done there Canonical, nailed it!
