Folks,

Is it possible that devices can be faked as UMG1831? One can obviously confirm appearance but how about inside chip? How to confirm that?

Its not fake issues, but faulty or bad lot issues, modem having issues or returned stuff probably gets dumped down here, because of which luck factor plays an important roles, as some lots turn out to be good and some give lot of issues. The current lot of 1831 failure rate is high with plenty of issues. Hopefully the next lot that hits the market will be better.

Its not scary its a fact, and its common for most of the products not only modems. On ebay u get so many phones being sold specially refurb or just like new ones. These are phones which are returned to the service providers by users in a short span of time when they do not want to continue with a service or a plan, sometimes the user buy backs the phone at a low price and other times the provider takes them back.
