Motorola Z 'thinnest' slider phone

Motorola today announced a slider phone that's a mere 14.8mm thick. Called simply the Z - for no other reason than it's the last letter of the alphabet.

Specs :
  • 2.2" display.
  • 1.3-megapixel digital camera.
  • MP3 player.
  • Cut-metal keypad's.
Price :
  • To ship next month for around $525.

The Z isn't the thinnest phone around. It's not even the thinnest Motorola handset - that honour goes to the 11.5mm SLVR, and even the RAZR is thinner, at just 14.5mm - but it's still pretty lithe for a slider phone.

The device was designed in Korea, where it got its first public outing yesterday and where it will ship first, later this month.

The phone will subsequently be launched across Asia and later around the rest of the world.
