Hi Guys,

I am looking to upgrade the kids pc. Its an old one and here's the current config.

Pentium G3240
Gigabyte B85M-D3H
2*4gb ram 1600mhz ddr3 (2 out of 4 slots)

corsair 400 or 450w, dont remember, will check and update.
250gb ssd samsung.
monitor is lg 20 imch ips panel 1440 x 900

One option is to:
The processor is the weak link here. I can put a used i5 or i7 4th gen in there.
I woulld also add another 8 gb ram.

Tricky part is the graphics card. If i do the above 2 steps, what would be a good card.

The second choice is to update it to change it to some 7th or 8th gen. Latest ones will be out of budget.
With this I would need a new processor, mobo and ddr4 ram.

How much can approx it will cost to do option 2 and what can i get for my old cpu/ram/mobo
What graphics card can I pair this setup with.

I would prefer to go with used items as it will be cheaper.

Usage is watching movies, online classes, some programming, some gaming etc.
Not very particular about any particular games. Whatever can be played with the config at hand will be ok.

You can also consider Ryzen 3400g with Mobo and ram, should be under your budget and you can even do some casual gaming with it.

Or go with Option 2 : you might be able to grab i5 8400/9400f, Mobo, ram and a 1050ti/1060, all used.
You could also get i3 10100f, Msi H410m pro-vh, 8gb ram plus a used gpu if you can extend a little.
