Hey Guys

This is really urgent.

I had given my Asus 5870 to Rashi for repair but as it is EOL according to them they are providing me with a 6870 which is a downgrade against 5870.

Please advise what I should do?

If possible please provide me with contact details of someone senior in Rashi in Pune or India.

How old is the card? Even then think a 6950 2GB would be a more appropriate replacement and not a 6870

^^ I think the HD 6870 is fine, considering it runs slightly more cooler and lesser power draw, its better at tessellation and is a fine graphics card overall, but if you feel you want to risk it ask them to replace it with a HD 6950 1GB initially.

The thing is that the reviews online are conflicting. Some show 5870 as an equivalent of 6950 and some show it as an equivalent of 6870.

Its very strange.

@supra will talk to sorcy about this.

^Actually HD6870 is about 10% weaker than HD5870 according to the reviews I have checked and HD6950 is about 10% faster than HD5870.
But in the reviews relatively old drivers are used. Recent updates have indeed bought more performance to HD68xx and HD69xx series.
And performance tweaks will only increase with further driver updates before HD7xxx arrives.
So IMO HD6870 is not at all a bad deal for you.

Obviously you can try to get HD6950 from Rashi :bleh: but even though you get HD6870 you shouldn't be disappointed ;)

The 6870 draws less power and is generally more efficient than the older 5870 .So do consider that too. Weighs good on the conscience :)

^I would be better off with HD6870 rather than HD5870 since recent 11.6 Catalyst update has brought decent performance upgrades to it!

Rest is upto you :)

See if they can provide you with a new 5870 otherwise ask them for a 6950 1GB one. If they agree then bounce on bed :P otherwise 6870 is also not a bad deal take the new 6870. Still it's a benefit of a new gen. over the old gen. :)

I doubt anyone would see any noticeable difference between 6870 and 5870 when playing a game. Of course, the 5870 is a legendary card for bitcoin mining, so unless you are into that there is no reason to feel sad about getting a 6870. Also are they providing a new 6870 or a refurbished one?

^OMG!!!! Rashi has gone Zero to Hero!! My belief in Asus will now take a hairpin turn!
