Using Asus RT-N13U , need to extend range to above floor, what can be done?

Using Asus RT-N13U need to extend range by purchasing repeater/access point whatever way possible.

I'm not getting good range at one above floor..There's just one room exactly above the modem/router room where I get perfect network & that's where I'm planning to put the repeater/access point.

Confusion is that what to go for ? Do I have to buy same router or any cheaper thing can do? Looking for 'N' based only.

For example : can I use this Asus RT-N10 as a repeater and not buy n13u ....or any other router and flash it with dd-wrt.

I am using a N13U with a Dlink DIR 655 .I have the exact same problem as you i get patchy signal with just the Dlink so i pulled a cable from the first floor to second floor connected the N13U and set it in acess point mode and voila it works with no issues tried with out connected cable it still works( repeater mode)

I am not 100% sure if the N10 has the acesspoint and repeater mode.
