Hi,

One of my friend has recently got blackberry 3g curve. This is his first blackberry phone. Now he would like to use blackberry Messenger Service (BBM) on it.

Starting Blackberry plan from Vodafone Delhi is for Rs. 299, but without browsing and surfing. Normal internet plan is available for Rs. 99 (2 GB).

Question is, can BBM be used with normal internet (Rs. 99 plan) without paying for this 'high' blackberry plan (Rs. 299). Is there a way around?

Also what is the best websites for blackberry softwares?

Thanks....

there is no way to use it wo gettin the bbm plan activated... Even if he gets the 99 bcks plan activated then also it wont be helpful cause the network provider know which kind of phone is used and when they find out it is bb than they will bar net usage on ur phone also inspite of the 99 plan being active on ur number

Then, what is the best alternative to BBM on blackberry phones(apart from gtalk, yahoo etc) that will work on Rs. 99 plan and is similar to BBM

Which are good websites for blackberry softwares?

All native BB apps require a special BB plan as the data is encrypted and passed through their servers. This includes BBM, the BB browser, BB maps among others. So, if you get a regular data plan, these will not work! There are other apps created by BB too like Gtalk, MSN messenger, Facebook and Twitter. They might not work too!

So, you will need a BB data plan for these apps!

The alternative is to get 3rd party apps like Whatsapp for messaging, Opera Mini for browsing and Google Maps which will definitely work on a regular data plan!

From the WhatsApp website: WhatsApp for BlackBerry

Minimum Requirements

BlackBerry OS 4.5 or above

BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) or BLackBerry Enterprise Service (BES)

So even these application will require BB plan!!!!!!!!!!!! But I guess I can use these applications on my Nokia phone with normal 99 plan

Whatsapp , as also mentioned by grease monk, require BIS or BES, and moreover it is not free (1 year trial)

Yes, I saw that earlier. I just thought that it's possible that they assumed that BB users would opt for a BB plan and mentioned that you either require BES or BIS.

Yeah, I would like someone to confirm this as well. My knowledge is only limited to what the website says, dont have any real world exp.

^^ Bump.

Can somebody let me know if there are any privacy issues on Whatsapp? Any other alternate Apps?

What privacy issues are you talking about

PS: Please create a new thread for discussion if you are using whatsapp on non BB phone.
