Figuring stuff out
Guide
Hi all,
Actually there is a pc that i use for gaming (amd 3000+)n the other (p3-1ghz) for surfing etc...... now i have utorrent installed on the p3, nd off late it has begun to ct strangely, pro'lly some registry prob/trojan , well who knows, and so i am thinking of a clean install of xp on the p3. but i dont wanna loose some partially downloaded stuff on it, is there any way of transferring the partial torrent download to the amd system so that i can continue from the curent (70%) status ?? the 2 pcs are both xp and are connected on a lan via a crossover cable .......

any help will be great:hap2:

try to mirror the setup of utorrent on the amd pc. keep the programs path and setting for the torrents exactly the same and try. it might work. also copy not cut paste the downloaded file/folder exactly as it is located on your other machine to the amd machine.

If you are doing a clean install i.e - format and install then first step is backup the torrent X file and the X folder of the d/l.

After installing your xp just copy the X folder back on any partition. Intall utorrent, double click the X torrent file - Important - for the path of d/l just point the X folder which you just restored from backup. You are done utorrent would continue the X torrent from where it left off.

^ If that was directed against me, then - Mention not, pleasure is all mine :D

Glad to be of service to you Neotheone. Keep querying, so that i can be of further assistance. Thanks :)

lol ! but i meant that the download was not resuming when i did that and it started from 0% , it's a 1.5 gig download for goodness sake !

are there some specific settings 2 B changed ?

^ aah, but did you back up the the original folder X and after xp installation did you restore it back ?

also, you can try using another torrent client like bitcomet and try the same thing, that is start the torrent X, for the path just point it to the incomplete X folder where your torrent X files are located and it should resume from where you left off.

Hey Neotheone, i think i found the problem. i got it by mistake actually. i wanted to see if utorrent resumes partial downloads by other programs, so i downloaded another torrent prog (bitpump from http://analogx.com)

Bitpump's and utorrents download folder were set to diff drives. i copied utorrent partial download and put it in bitpumps download folder after some changes etc.. and bitpump does start downloading from where utorrent stopped.

but utorrent does not start from where bittorrent stopped after i downloaded about 10% through bitpump and copied the partial download to utorrents download location.

Reason? RootDrive\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Utorrent - this folder contains all settings and partial download info of utorrent

i havent yet tried copying it yet to another machine but i'm sure this folder when copied to exact same location will allow utorrent to start from where it stopped.

tell u if it works when i try to copy to my friends machine

Yeah it works, I can vouch for that. Tho i haven't checked, but I guess an unfinished download may be resumed using another client as well.
