Graphic Cards VGA probs.

I have a 9800 pro, all was well till afternoon, when comp started hardlocking, suspected the vga card to be at fault, hence reseated it after cleaning the power points etc.
The prob is he computer is able to boot up, but in software render mode only, I have tried various driver version including the one provided on the VGA CD of the product and catalyst versions 4.10, 5.1, 5.8, 5.11 and 6.5.
After booting into windows, I get a VPU recover error, and the card diverts into software rendering mode, and hangs up after 2-3 mins. This happens i all driver versions, am not able to install omega drivers at all. Comp is working in safe mode, I tried drivercleaner and removed the drivers entries too. I suspect a hardware failure, but shouldnt I be getting artifacts or corruption, instead of booting in software render mode, and hanging up thereafter ?

Hmm now, the computer fails to boot up at all, no sounds etc, it just fails to boot up, mobo led is on, gfx and cpu fan rotating, monitor working fine too...

PSU problem?? But then why should it go into software rendering mode if it is a PSU problem :S :S

Try another PSU if possible.

Which CPU and mobo BTW?

Take a screwdriver, wrap a cloth around its tip and run it through the AGP and RAM slots.

Also take a pencil eraser and clean the contact slots of the RAM and AGP card.

Issue narrowed down, its a PSU issue. Thanks a ton to deejay for sorting my mess ;)
And Anish, trust me when I say I have cleaned my whole computer with water thanks to deejay !!!
Edit msg to deejay : Comp working fine as of now, and idle temps are down by atleast 6 degrees are stable at 47"c now...

@ aces_170,
1) Temps too high ...install a 80 mm fan in front , as intake, this will lower the temps by 3 ~4 C.

2) ur graphic card is in perfect condition now ... there is nothing wrong with it.

3) repair installof xp recommended along with freeing up disk space by removing of junk / useless data.

4) A 400 W psu recommended since the present one is a borderline case ....might fail any moment ...

5) except for basic cleaning ...nothing much was done on the m/c.
