Virgin LG optimus V - unlock Help!!

Hey guys..i am getting a Virgin lg optimus V.
Its a android device.
The point is i am getting for cheap 60$-approx INR 3000.
Its locked to Virgin US.
My dad has asked the store guy in LAX, he said it can be unlocked but they cant do it.
My issue is ,can it be unlocked to work in India. ? If yes from where? How?
I havent bought it yet , but i am planning to buy 4 coz its really good deal considering the specs of the phne if there are positive hopes for unlock.
A solution i knw is call the virgin CC and ask for unlock code.
But its at their sole discretion to give the code or nt aftr i buy the phne.
So jst to be sure if anyone knws how to do it? Guys help.

Its cdma phone.

Even if you unlock it,you will have difficulty in activating it on Indian cdma.

Unless you are reliance cdma user.

I know its a CDMA phone. But i can use a virgin or mts or reliance cdma sim here in mumbai.? For 3G Wifi tethering.!

Only if it has sim slot which can accept omh sim cards for cdma.

Their are two types of cdma activation.

one is classic non sim card version.and other is sim based.

thats omh sim card.

PLease dont make multiple threads for the same.

If you dont mind the hassles of running around getting it unlocked + registration of MEID etc, get it. Just remember that it will involve another ~2K for doing the same.

Ok. Thanks for info pratik. But then hw will i knw which activation it is? How do i proceed? With unlock or dont buy it?

Just check in the store whether it takes sim card or not.

I found that it doesnt use sim.
First i ll have to get it unlocked? Or just meid registration,etc will work directly?
